Tony the Wookie
OK that Guy does that....then this explodes...oh s*** the camera is not in the right place....than these People fly to the Ground....the explosion is to small....then this guy walks on the rubble and does the 'ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED' thing...s*** his arm clips through the wall.. Get what I mean? I don't think anyone gets what you mean... When in the Fallout demo did anything explode during the middle of dialogue? Mass Effect had a few cutsceen type specialized dialogues where you would push someone out a window or blow something up, but that was a 1 out of 1,000 thing. The other 999 dialogues were elementary simple.
Tony the Wookie
Trust me, this is the last thing that is worrying modders about Fallout 4. The people who are modding Fallout 4 are worried about the inclusion of settlements or what exactly 'The Institute' is going to do to be a game changer in the plot or whether or not the lighting is going to work nice and smoothly. Power Armor is a much more important conversation to have than dialogue, that system has been overhauled and will take a considerably different approach to modding. Fenryr3001
That was just an Example. The Animations wouldn't be hard, but the correct stagign would be. WIth the addition of Settlements, couldn't you essentially make the Vanilla Game semi-incompatible with a few Mods?
Tony the Wookie
The settlements feature basically takes every pre-conception we have had about modding for the past 10 years and just turned it all upside down and re-wrote every rule. Almost every kind of mod will be affected by this.

nivea
My own guess. Only the intro will have a fully voiced Player - and probably just in the cut scenes. Otherwise, it will mean hundreds of voice actors would be required to do variations based on each and every possible player character. Even if every male is required to use the same male voice, and every female the same female voice it would be awkward. Unless Beth has some voice generator that does away with the need for actual voice actors. [select voice: Male/Female/Other] [select age: very young/young/early mature/middle age/old/ancient,] [ Select language: US English, UK English, AUS English, French ... ] [ select accent: US Midwestern/US southern/US New Jersey/ UK London/UK Wales/UK Scott/ AUS Sydney/AUS SA, South African, Jamacain - etc] Nah, I just don't see that yet. There are actually only two player voice actors, one male and one female. So there are no age variations (you are a middle aged white person voice), there is most likely no other language then what your country is, and the accent is only grizzled middle aged male and just a average woman voice. So sadly I do hear it IS fully voiced. Edited July 6, 2015 by nivea
llamaRCA
Also I didn't say it would make it impossible,it would just be a good bit harder. You're right. Having to accommodate a voiced player character will absolutely be more work, and therefore more complicated, than what we build now to have a character interact with the player. We won't know exactly how different the dialogue system is until we get our hands on the editor to see how the new system has been built.
Skorchhead
Scenario 1 - Bethesda is smart enough to realize it's an unnecessary feature that a lot of people won't like, so they include the ability to enable/disable it at will. Mod authors can just safely say that they don't support using the voiced character option. (Least likely scenario). Scenario 2 - One of the first F4 mods released will disable the voiced character, and go on to be one of the most endorsed F4 mods ever. All quest mods will require it. (Most likely scenario). Or scenario 3, which is what my mod will do, is have a fully voiced player character included in all of my dialogue with the companions and quest elements. The recording of dialogue for the companions and player character are already taking place and will be done before the GECK is ever released. I was actually surprised how easy it was for me to find someone who can record dialogue for the player character that is pretty much indistinguishable from the vanilla game demo. I will definitely be giving this guy a lot of credit when my mod is finally released. Also, it is in fact a necessary feature if your goal is to create a modern video game. If your goal is just to create a non-cutting edge game with mediocre features, I guess it is ok to not voice your player characters, but if Bethesda wants Fallout 4 to win as many rewards as Skyrim, it is in fact, necessary.
