How to assign textures from one mod to another?

Hello everyone,

I downloaded an overhaul mod consisting of .esm, .esp and a BSA files. I also have another, smaller mod which consists of an .esp file and Meshesand Textures folders. I liked a particular dark colour/texture of a combat helmet from the overhaul mod and wanted to extract it and place it in the smaller mod's Textures folder but I cannot find the darker textures anywhere. I know that they should be located in the overhaul mod's BSA file which I extracted but did not find the right texture there. After opening the Overhaul's mod .esm file in the GECK I can change textures of the default game helmet model with a particular texture from the Alternative Textures browser where I am able to assign desired texture but I cannot find it anywhere else which leads me to a conclusion that the texture I would like to assign could be somehow located in the .esm file.

How can I find the overhaul's textures and how to assign them to my custom helmet ?

The texture is not in the ESP/ESM only texture paths for sets are stored there,

The alternative textures section under the mesh window for the model is taken from "Texture sets" this will lead you to the file path of the texture file when you double click/edit one.

Thank You,

I think I found it. Now, how could I make my custom helmet .esp mod use the texture?

Please read the tutorials in the nearby fallout3nexus mod talk forum. You will need to learn about nif files and the nifskope program to edit them. You will need to find the mesh file (nif file) for the helmet and make a small change, so that it uses the appropriate texture file (dds file). The techniques for FO3 are correct for FNV.
