So...everyone's eyes are black!

Welcome, Swiftrz;

Sorry you're having a problem. The "All Eyes Are Black" issue is well known, and could be the result of several different things. Without ANY appearance mods installed, the most common causes are either a) your graphics are set too low in the "Options" menu, or b) your video card is not capable of running the higher settings.

BTW: Unless you're planning on using one of a very small handful of mods that effect the scripts for actions by the uncontrolled Party members (the "Tactics") there's no reason not to patch to the latest one, (1.04) and many reasons to do so.

Let us know how it goes.

Always good to know that I'm not alone! Based on some slight differences I've seen in color elsewhere (I get a beige tint on all mage robes, for example) I'd say that my laptop's video card is most likely the culprit. Thanks for bringing that up, I probably wouldn't have thought of it otherwise. Sorry to bring up a common problem, thanks for the help :) Edited by Swiftrz

The eye color issue has always puzzled me. With an ATI x800 graphics card all eyes were black except for Morrigan's. That made me wonder. I read several threads that discussed the problem and figured that my machine was not powerful enough.... but why could I see Morrigan's eyes with color?

I installed a suite of head presets (I "think" that these were the "Moraelin heads") which did have hazel colored eyes and which DID show in both the character creator and in the game (Elven ladies also had longer ears and were very cute). This added to my puzzlement.

When I built a new machine with a more powerful graphics card (one gig) I could then open the top graphics slider (which had been grayed out) and I could then see eye colors in game and in the character creator.

I found that a dark-eyed lady Elf that I had journeyed with for so long actually had green eyes.... I had not known that. She seemed, by her looks, to have a very different personality.

Cheers

 Morrigan, and all of the BioWare-built Shapeshifters, (e.g. the former Weres from "The Nature of the Beast") do not use the standard eyes. They have custom ones that give a slight glow, and a hint of a cat's vertical pupil opening.

Many facemorph modders worked-out why Morri's eyes were so different, and incorporated the same technique in their works. With mods like Bidelle's and PinappleTree's, the rest of us get access to them as well!

Yup, I've gotta second what Thandal was saying about certain characters having different eyes than everybody else. Morrigan, Sten, werewolves (even after the curse is lifted) undead/possessed people, DarkSpawn, and maybe some others... use an entirely different graphic for their eyes then the graphics that are used for the PC's and most of the other NPC's (which share the PC eye graphics).

Thats why those characters still show up with their eyes looking like they do, when everybody else's are blacked out.

And yeah... it can be creepy. I played like that at first for a while, til I figured out... hey, this slider is cool, it changes things ;)

Thanks Thandal and Drakewolf,

Mystery is finally solved. The eyes do add so much depth to the character creator. I have been exploring it quite a bit this morning after installing "Tucked Hair".

All praise to the "Chargenmorph Compiler".

Cheers

I'm definitely glad to hear that it was something that you were able to get sorted out, and that now you can play the game more to your liking :)

I remember that ell had a horrible issue with the colors not showing up for the eyes, and I'm not sure if it was something that she ever did manage to get sorted out. So I was most definitely had my fingers crossed that it wasnt a similar issue for you.

Hahaha yeah, TerraEx is a godsend for his chargencompiler, I'd buy him the first round for that! :D

As I seem to recall, Ell had the same graphics card that I had (the ATI x800) and I do believe that she solved the eye problem same way I did.... she built a new machine.

I agree about TerraEx and I will buy the second round gladly.

Cheers
