The Dark Brother
I have never played Morrowind. I joined the Elder Scrolls story when I bought Oblivion. The main thing that puts me off buying it is what I have heard about the combat. In one word: Rubbish. Are there mods around that can give Morrowind the visceral combat of Oblivion and if so, should I purchase it now, especially as GOTY edition is about £10 now? Guest Tessera
Are there mods around that can give Morrowind the visceral combat of Oblivion Nope. MW is an older game and its engine was never designed with very much physics in mind.No matter how you modded it, the core engine would still be lacking in that regard. It's simplistic, probably because it wasn't high on Bethesda's priority list for that game. MW is more about roleplaying and quests than it is about combat, where as Oblicion is heavily into action and athletics and also, it's very open-ended. Issues like these are why you'll never see any agreement as to which game is "better" between the two. Some folks prefer one style over the other and vice versa. They're both great games... but Oblivion was never intended to be "Morrowind - Continued." It's a totally different RPG in its own right -- one that caters heavily to those of us who enjoy acrobatically smashing heads and hearing them pop. Its physics and graphics totally bury those of MW... but that's not news. :)
Povuholo
Morrowind Enhanced adds combo's and the ability to block manually, but that's it.
Tiberiu911
Buy Morrowind, if you are looking for a lasting and appealing rpg experience. Morrowind actually had different styles of attacks (lunge, slash, poke, etc). You get used to the combat and the graphics (which still are pretty good to me!) after a while. It's a good game, it would be a shame not to get it!

You can guess what the mod does yourself.

Are the quests and main storyline better and longer than Oblivion's? BTW is there a demo of Morrowind still available anwhere? The Dark Brother has vays ov making you talk!! This sounds a bit like an interrogation, doesn't it? Mwwwwhaahaahaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!
Povuholo
There is no MW demo.I don't think the quests themselves are better (or worse), but you figuring out some things yourself (no quest markers). There are more quests than in Oblivion that don't require fighting, but researching, talking to people, etc... Still lot's of fighting though. There are more factions too. In my opinion Morrowind is an rpg with some action elements, Oblivion is an action game with RPG elements. It depends on what you like the most. Oblivion's combat is a lot of action, and Morrowind combat is a lot of RPG. It's difficult to compare them, it depends on what you like. What exactly did you hear about the combat anyway, and from what source? If it comes from someone who didn't like MW and loves Oblivion it could be a bit exaggerated. Tiberiu911
In my oppinion the storyline was a lot better. The factions had alot more quests. Beware if you are used to Oblivion's Red Triangle of Know-it-all, since Morrowind's quests makes you look high and low for certain things. Personally I can think of no reason why you shouldn't get it. It has alot of things which are better than Oblivion's, and some things in which Oblivion did a better job. Oblivion is an action game with RPG elements. Well I wouldn't say that Povuholo ^_^. Oblivion's action isn't all that exciting and it's combat system is not the greatest (if you compare it to an action game with rpg elements such as Dark Messiah). I would rather call it an Action RPG that got out wrong... Or something.
Abramul
Morrowind's combat system isn't all that bad, provided you have at least one weapon skill as a Major. You do want to be cautious about caves, though, since bandits are fixed-level.
ranmasoatome2038
regardless of the differences in the combat system, morrowind goty edition is a MUST BUY. great story, good magic, expecially making your own magic spells and items, and cool characters. u can always use mods to further enhance the game. i use alot of cool mods on oblivion that made it WAY better than oblivion vanilla. hope u at least give morrowind goty a shot, if u dont like it u can always sell it.
