kittie885
I wanted to change one little thing in an esm file and so i opened up in TES construction set and made the change. As you know it won't let you save it as an esm file so i saved it as an esp then used TES4Gecko to change it to an esm. I replaced the original that was in the data folder, made sure the name and load order was exactly as it had been before, and loaded the game.. but everytime I try now the loading screen freezes before getting to the main load screen where you pick which save game to continue. Am I doing something wrong?

Am I doing something wrong? Load the .esm file you want to change in the construction set. Make your changes, then save those chages as a new .esp file. Then use Gecko to merge (i.e. use the Merge to Master function) your new .esp file into the .esm you are wanting to change...OOOORRRR...just use the .esp file you have created as a patch...i.e. don't merge it...just use it as an .esp file that modifies the .esm. Hope this helps. Regards, Hem

I had no idea using an esp file would act as a patcher. It won't mess the game up in any way to have a mod that does exactly what the esm master file does with the exception of one little thing? The thing I changed has to do with the merchants only. I'll try the merge function and see what it does, thank you! [edit] Merged the files and the game loaded completely this time! However my modification didn't work. Ohwell, thank you for your help anyway![edit2] Activating the esp file freezes the game up just like described earlier when I tried to use it as an esm. Um...not exactly, and trying to explain is a bit much in this format. If you haven't already, I recommend you study up on mod making via the tutorials available on The Elder Scrolls Construction Set Wiki.. Happy modding! Regards, Hem P.S. Patch was probably the wrong term for me to use...and could be confusing to novice modders.
