CyrusFyre
Okay so I understand that when you get a big red exclamation point it (usually) means that you are missing a mesh. Except that I cannot for the life of me figure out what that mesh is. Here is the problem, maybe it is just simple and I'm overcomplicating it but here it is. Ranger Andy in the Novac hotel bungalow has a big red exclamation point on him. I can see him clearly underneath it. I used tfc to move the camera into the red exclamation point until it faded so I could see clearly and looked him over while he slept and could clearly see him in great detail, mustache and all. I can talk to him and the conversation is fine but there is the big red "!". What I've tried: -Checking all my mods and base files to make certain that they are all still there and active-Validating my files with Steam-Deleting and then redownloading all of the bsa's that came with vanilla New Vegas and all DLC's (I own them all in case that matters)-doing the same with the esm's (essentially redownloading the whole vanilla game + DLC's)-disabling and re-enabling ArchiveInvalidateInvalidated-disabling and re-enabling Ranger Andy-killing Ranger Andy and taking things off of his body one at a time to confirm that it is him and not his possessions that are the issue and it is in fact him (and I can clearly see his naked corpse with no weird textures or missing pieces or anything which is usually not the case when you see a big red "!")-opening the vanilla of Ranger Andy in the GECK hoping to see the problem; he opened up fine with no warnings-opening Ranger Andy in the GECK using any mods that might affect him; he opened up fine with no warnings -reinstalling all meshes and textures that I used as a body replacer for men-checking different saves to make certain that it isn't just the one save and it is all saves So obviously something is up but I can't figure out what. Can someone please help me find a more effective method for tracking this down. Maybe something I can do in FNVEdit or something? Any help will be very much appreciated. Thanks. Purr4me
console, point and click on him, write down his ID, post it here.run FNVedit 3.1.1all mods active.Go to the default falloutNV.esm.find him in non-playerNPC. right click his ID and copy to "new file"in the new file ,click on him again ,select build ref to this, a pop up will show up....IF any other mods are touching him, they will now show up here in this window. If none show up? select default code and ctrl +s the new plug in.exit ,Enable. run the game, verify if the bug is gone. kitty

CyrusFyre
His ID is "Ranger Andy" 0008f0b8 And according to FNVEdit 3.1.1 he is being modified by FCO.esm When I open him up in FCO in GECK he has a weird black bar over his brow where his eyebrows should be. Could this be the culprit? If so what can I do about it as changing his eyebrows does not help. I also noticed that his race has been changed to RangerAndy "Ranger Andy" [RACE: 1901359B] from AfricanAmericanOld "African American Old" [RACE:000042BF]. I assume this was to accommodate his interesting scarring on his face in FCO... And I can confirm that running the game using your file after FCO.esm does remove the big red "!". It also turns him into a young white guy which is a little disconcerting but at least I know what happened. Thank you for your help. As an added test I tried running your file first below the masters to see if it was the main file or another file and it still fixed the red "!" so it is the main file. I suppose I should now seek help from the mod author, yes? Again many thanks. ^_^
Purr4me
When I open him up in FCO in GECK he has a weird black bar over his brow where his eyebrows should be. Could this be the culprit? yep, I don't have FCO so I can't comment on it's validity. I suppose I should now seek help from the mod author, yes?yes, that is correct. NOTE: it might serve you better If you provide him or her with a screen shot of his work as "you" have seen it in the geck ,make your claim Valid. All I know is how to fix thing correctly, IF my plugin made the character Caucasian ?, that's because he is in Vanilla. All I did was find him directly and left the rest to your load order. As it turns out, you were able to detect what you needed to find. Now, For that bar thing across his face. This is most likely due to a change he or she had made due to some other thing that took place a while ago. Before that happened FCO was killer. Afterwards, there is this water fall of things going wrong.well, track down that brown thing in the geck, Chose face gen and simply tell the GECK to fix it.save a new esp from the edits you make and all is better. Simple really. Your welcome.kitty
CyrusFyre
Okay. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I had a doctor's appointment and then so did my son and blah blah blah stuff in RL. But anyway I did as you said and cracked him open again in GECK but this time I really started looking at his race because, as I said, it is a unique race in FCO. Well turns out his eyes were missing. FCO had the mesh of his eyes pointed to a file that once existed in an older version of FCO but was not included in the updated version of the file. (You got me thinking to start comparing what was what in old version vs new version when you mentioned things going wrong after the update and boy are you right.) So I took the file and placed it into the meshes folder and voila no more "!" on Andy. So I looked further and found that the Blue eye/Ghoul eye texture was pointed to the wrong folder so I fixed that and then I noticed a few other small issues like that and I fixed them. Now I have a great game, awesome textures and no more "!" so I'm quite happy. Thank you very much for your assistance, Kitty. You've been given a KUDOS and I really appreciate you taking the time to help me out. My advice for using FCO, which is very cool, is to install an old version first (version 2.2 preferably) and then install the newest version (v2.3.1 + child eye fix 2.3.2) over top of this allowing it to overwrite as needed. Things will be much smoother and it now works as advertised. ^_^ With sincere thanks and much gratitude, Seidi Edited July 13, 2015 by CyrusFyre
