Extracting a mod from a mod that is actually a set of mods...

Ok, I have been given this advice:

I extracted Natural_Habitat_by_Max_Tael.esp from Arthur's Natural Environments 2.9.7 using OBMM. Now:

1. I could activate Arthur's Natural Environments, selecting only and ONLY Natural Habitat by Max Tael. Or I could extract the esp file as adviced above in the quote.

But I noticed that there are meshes and texture files relating to the creatures included in Natural Habitat by Max Tael. So:

2. Should I take the Natural_Habitat_by_Max_Tael.esp file and disregard the Meshes and Textures directories or should I activate Arthur's Natural Environment, but only selecting Natural Habitat by Max Tael?

Any advice from more experienced people would be appreciated.

I have Weather - All Natural and do not wish to activate the weather component of Arthur's Natural Environment 2.9.7.

If the only thing you want is the Natural Habitat esp why not get it from the original mod instead of a compilation. The original is Natural Environments. That way you get no incompatibilities and the files you actually need. It's modular so you don't have to use any of the other esps if that's the only one you need.

You do need a few textures and meshes for Natural Habitat which are included in the original mod. I personally use all of it and am happy with it. There used to be a problem with snow in the wrong places, but that was fixed and I've never seen it happen. A big plus, is there's a darker Nights with HDR esp which helps a little with the glare.

It depends on what you want in weather of course. I've tried a few of the others and wasn't satisfied with the requirements or for other reasons. A more intense weather mod is little use to me really. I hate storms and heavy rain (even in real life) as it drags on fps and they never seem to stop once they start, even in the vanilla game.

It's up to you of course, but here's a link to Natural Environments.

This is one of the arguments against mod compilations. Another is what if there is a significant update to one of the mods in the compilation? Do you just live with the bugged original? or dump the compilation for the new version, possibly losing some of the other parts of the compilation? Or just wait and hope the person who compiled them makes a new version of the compilation?

This is Kibosh's!

...

Uh, k, its modular huh? I'll give it a try. Really want to stick with Weather - All Natural as I was already practically scolded by more experienced forum members in my other thread.

Installed Kibosh's Natural Environments.

Deactivated ALL esp files EXCEPT Natural Habitat.

It worked, except that it also changed my UI. I am using the vanilla user interface. If and when Natural Habitat is active, guess what? The breath bar changes into this ugly brownish rectangle bar, not to mention that the Health, Magicka, and Fatigue bars are also subtly changed.

What gives? How...disappointing.

UPDATE:

Read the readme file more thoroughly. Now I see why it is changing the UI/HUD. So, I can't just turn this mod into an omod file huh.

I think I'll try deleting ALL esp files EXCEPT Natural Habitat, then turn it into an omod.

Should I delete folders not relating to Natural Habitat too? Folders like "sky" and "menu"? Or should I leave all folders intact, just in case?

UPDATE:

I had to delete folders containing files unrelated to Natural Habitat. Thank GOD, honestly, that the author was organized enough to label folders appropriately.

Now, to test Natural Habitat, without all the other stuff that Natural Environment does. Hopefully it works. Just need to see insects and birds and that's it!

PLEASE LET IT WORK OH LORD!!!!!

UPDATE:

So far, all indicates that it does work. Saw a bug at night, and a bird flying overhead during the day.
