DAO: UE and the CFF editor

Has anyone been able to get this to work? That is, changing the Ultimate Edition to use more than 2 GB of RAM? I'm trying to use the JB texture mod, and everything works fine except most shields and various other items are solid black (meaning not enough memory.) I have 8 GB of RAM in my computer, it's kind of sad that I can't use it all.

I don't use that approach, I use the FO3 "Large Memory Area Flag" fix. Have been since 1.03, and am now on the UE myself. Never had a problem using the header-edited version. Still have very occasional CtD issues, but nothing like the "every 10 minutes" nightmare before I found it.

And there is absolutely ZERO difference between the UE version of "daorigins.exe" and the patch 1.04 version.

None. Bit-for-bit, they're identical, (ran FC against them.)

I tried the FO3 way as well, and it errored out just like the CFF editor's version did. BTW, I'm running the steam version of the game, and this seems to be the problem.

Sorry, mate. Sounds like Steam is doing a good job of ensuring the integrity of the exeutables under its control, jsut like it's supposed to! Maybe it does this for ALL files obtained through the service...

The fact that the user has to "give up all control of patching" for the programs installed via Steam is one of the main reasons I resist using it. I only have two such games, and one was received as a gift.

That's pretty much the boat I'm in. I lost the CD key to my original DA:O disc, so decided to just buy the UE version since I didn't have Awakenings either. I then got UE on steam as a gift. So freaking lame, I wish I'd known. Bioware seriously needs to FIX this on their own!

This isn't a BioWare thing. As I said, the UE version and the non-UE version are identical. And I'll bet the Steam version and the non-Steam version are too. This is a STEAM thing, and BioWare doesn't have anything to do with it...

(Or do you mean that BioWare should correct whatever it is that causes daorigins.exe to crash in the first place? Now THAT, I'd agree, is their problem! )

That's exactly what I was referring to. We shouldn't HAVE to use outside help to make this game use more than 2GB of RAM. I seriously don't see why they haven't patched it themselves yet (other than the fact the game technically doesn't NEED it, but if you're going to support modding of your games, you better FULLY support it!)

BioWare has NEVER "supported" modding the game. They released the Toolset as a favour, and have only said that they *might* release one for DA2. There was the one fix to it (v1.01) for an actual coding bug, but not even an update for Awakening.
