still need GECK help :(

First, I do appreicate everyone that's been trying to help me, and I apologize to everyone for causing a tiny bit of clutter with multiple topics.

I think I may have mis-stated what it is I'm trying to do, so I'm going to list everything I've done, and what it is I'm trying to do.

Before I get into detail, the ONLY things I know how to do with the GECK is alter or restat the weapons and armors, along with making new FormIDs to insert a new item(basically what I did to make my GenChasePistol mod that is uploaded). Any of the other functions of the GECK I have no clue what they are let alone how to use them. I also know how to take the item and place it into the game world.

Ok, I have opened the form for Maria(the Unique 9mm Pistol) and edited it's formId to get a new form, and thus a "new" item. So far so good.

Now, I click on the "Art and Sound" tab, and under the "Model" section, there is Model, 1st PErson Model Object, Armor List and World Model. I clicked on EDIT for the Model, and up popped a small rendering window(with the title of Model Data) with a small list that says "Alternate Textures". Under that are 3 colums, titled "3D Name", "3D Index", and "New Texture".

By doubleclicking on the entry that says "Ninemm:0", I can change that parts texture/appearance(for this I changed it to the "1stPerson9mmTexture", which changes the bottom part of the gun to that of the vanilla 9mm pistol). The other entries change other parts(hammer, clip, etc). I've gotten the look of the item I want, and have changed the stats to my liking. So I now have a new formId, adjusted stats and have an appearance for this "new" weapon that I like. So far so good.

My problem lies in that when I save it, I have no esp file or anything else.

What I want to do is have that altered model appear in the game as a new item, and thus have a "new" weapon. How do I make that happen using only the GECK?

Any and all help is greatly appreicated.

Well, that's actually two problems.

The first one is, basically, why don't you have an ESP. The game must have saved _somewhere_, if you told it to save. The only situation when it wouldn't ask you for a file to save is if you already had another mod as an active file. Then it will save your changes in the .esp you already have active. To have it saved as a new file, you _must_ start with only the FalloutNV.esm loaded.

The second problem is actually getting it in the game as an item you can, say, buy or loot. Easiest way is to add it to a box. But, one step at a time. Let's get that ESP created first.

Ok, I'm starting from scratch and doing the exact same as I did in my initial post.

<elevator musik plays>

Ok, I've remade the whole thing from scratch, placed in on the floor in Doc Mitchell's House and saved it as GenPistolProto.es. However, it's not in my data folder and that's where I saved it.

I did have the same problem with my GenChasePistol mod, and I don't remember what I did to make the esp appear. What exactly is going on?

Well, you probably saved it somewhere else. As I was saying, it must have saved _somewhere_. Now you just need to find out where.

Just as a test, I took my GenChasePistol and made it the active file. I changed the textures like i did in the example above, and the esp has disappeared from my data folder. I swapped the textures back to the 9mmPistol(the default appearance) and it's still gone.

It shows up in the GECK when I go to edit it, but the esp wont show in my data folder, and this time I made sure it was saved in C: - Program Files (x86) - Bethesda Softworks - Fallout New Vegas - Data

open up your start menu and try to search for the file

Then goto the file location, if different from data.

It could be UAC, but if you didnt get an error message I don't think it is. You can also try uninstalling the GECK, and reinstalling it to ensure that it's relative paths are correct

Ok, I just switched the settings over so I run the GECK as admin. The files I mentioned above were not listed in the directory when I went to Data to load the FalloutNV.ESM. The only files listed besides the ESM were my already-installed mods(which I assume is normal). I'm going to try it again and post my results.

........if that was the whole problem I think I'm going to find me some real life nuka cola quantum and get drunk off of it :P

Ok, I just did a quick retext in GECK while running it as an admin, but I DID NOT place it in the gameworld. The esp was showing in the data folder. I'm going to drop it into the game world and let you guys know what happened.

Ok, it's placed in Doc Mitchell's house, and the esp is still showing. Last test to see if it shows in the game world in it's modified appearance.....

YES! IT WAS IN THE GAMEWORLD, WITH IT'S OWN APPEARANCE!

Before I jump for joy and give you guys the big virtual hug, I do want to make sure of one thing:

As I had made a new formID for the weapon, and only modified THAT item's appearance, the other ingame items will remain unaffected, correct?
