MagdalenaDwojniak
First, sorry if I am stirring the pond, but this conundrum has been bothering me for a long time. A question of canon lore-(in)consistency: we have Rinna. She joined the Crows in 9:16 Dragon as part of the Azul contract as she was an illegitimate daughter of Prince Estefan (supposedly). She schemed to get on the throne after Natale and lost. But, considering elves are very genetically-adaptable and half-elves take the other parent’s phenotype to a great extent, how is it possible that she’s described as an “elven lass”? That would mean both parents were elves and Estefan is/was definitely human (as a noble). How come? How should it be interpreted? I believe this was an error. Considering this mention appears just once, but the thing with the Rosso Noche, the deal between House Vallisti and House Arainai, all this stuff is repeated in "The World of Thedas" and (probably from there) on the wikia. That the wikia, which is maintained by users after all, not the developers, could be mistaken, sounds like a viable explanation. But the book? How do you see it? willjk57
I would like to visit that wikia site but my browser is barely functional with all the crap it loads. Rinna was Zevran's only love?
MagdalenaDwojniak
I would like to visit that wikia site but my browser is barely functional with all the crap it loads. Rinna was Zevran's only love? Yes, she was... Unless you successfully romanced Zev, obviously. I think this single instance when she is described as "an elven lass" is a mistake. If she was a bastard of noble blood, she had to be human.
mcgoy
Of course you are also comparing books with in game lore with the wiki. Since Bioware (and Gaider) didn't always manage to keep their own lore consistent within an individual game, the chances that they managed to keep it consistent across multiple games, books, comic books, AND the wiki is infinitesimal. elven can also be a description rather than an indication of race In the Bioware view of Ferelden, race is a very simple autosomal dominant/recessive gene. Estefan could have had an Elf ancestor and had the recessive Elf gene. When he had an illegitimate child with an Elf, the appearance would have been Elf 25% of the time (statistically). It is a scientifically ridiculous way to set up the genetics of the races, but that is the way that they did it.
MagdalenaDwojniak
You are right, it is a ridiculous example of a violation of common sense. I guess I can believe she was human and perhaps with some traces of elven traits out of the blue. Certainly making more sense than being an elf. ladyvoldything
Listen, if Feynriel can come out the womb looking like a DA2 elf shagged Jay Leno, then Rinna can look elfy enough to be described as one.
