bow489
This post is more than two years old, but if someone's still looking for a solution... Weeks ago, I decided to play this awesome game again. It worked for a while, but then it started to crash to desktop. Eventually, the crashes have become freezes. Freeze, sound loop and Alt-Tab or task manager wouldn't work anymore, at random situations in the game - in the shopping menu, at dialogues or at exploring. They became more frequent - in the end, It happened after a few seconds of gameplay and I had to reset my PC, just annoying. First I tried disabling 2 of my 4 cores (i5), like Gaoxin described. The time between freezes has been expanded, but they still occured. So, this wasn't the solution. After further research in other forums, I learned this doesn't happen in windowed mode. Even if, the game would at least let you access the task manager. Anyway, I'm playing now in windowed mode and still with two cores (just to feel certain) for many hours without any freezes or even a crash to desktop. That's the solution. For the ugly window border, there is a solution, too. I use this program: http://grismar.net/shiftwindow/It moves the window in a position so the borders won't be seen and it's like you would play in full screen. You have to start it everytime before or after you've started Dragon Age and activate it, but I think it's better than an almost unplayable game (along the way you can deactivate the cores). I hope this helps.
