DEAD MONEY CRASH

OH duh!

That crash before start up is caused when the load order is WACK.

For example if for one reason or another Dead Money.esm was loading before FalloutNV.esm

Instant crash!

LOL knock knock... Read much?

Use NVMM (new vegas mod manager) or change the modified on date manually.

You can also change the name of whatever mod is loading before FalloutNV.esm to Fb_YourModsName

Fb_YourModsName

Fc_YourModsName

Fd_YourModsName

Ga_YourModsName

Gb_YourModsName

Gc_YourModsName

See a pattern yet? it's cause vanilla can often go by what the files name is rather than the "normal" modified on date. However it should go by the modified on date. I figure that this issue has to do with either the Fallout.ini being set to read only. That or folks playing with steam offline or with offline like settings. The first "figuring" I did from NVMM prompting me to set the Fallout.ini to not "read only" so that NVMM could manage FalloutNV, and also marking the checkbox to remember this setting, thus making it automatic, an I didn't have to name mods anymorez. NVMM is designed to allow you to move the mods up an down an it automaticly changes the created/modded on dates so that FNV loads them in that order. You check it by using FNV edit to load up the load order an read the messages as it loads up it pretty much mirrors what FNV does durring a load up. Also you could just view the data files tab in the FNV launcher.

Also not really related to this issue, upon installing FOMM, WHOOPZ I SAID IT! NVMM it already had Archive invalidation checked inside the Tools tab, however I noticed that the actual AI!.bsa wasn't installed, which is the main component of Archive invalidation. Checking the Three seperate fallout.ini files I also saw that the game was still set up to use the old Archive invalidation text method (which sucks) So I went back to the tools tab in NVMM an unchecked the archive invalidation which prompted to remove archive invalidation (The one that wasn't actually applied) Then I checked it again in the tools tab which prompted to apply the archive invalidation, hit yes, then checked all the components which were then installed.

Moving on... If you jump in a similar post with a problem it might be a good idea from now on to actually discribe the problem you are having or else create your own post.... Just a thought. I hope this helps.

Start a new game, create a random character. Exit Doc mitchels shack, open the console an type TMM 1 Thus allowing you to fast travel to the DLC marker. Enter the DLC an test to see if it still happends. This will narrow the field. If it doesn't happen you know that it's probably a problem caused from you save game. If it happens just the same it's more than likely limited to the software on your computer, Visual C++, Direct X, .NET framework, audio an video codecs, O/S, an so on.

I had the same problem, and when I started a new game as you said it worked. How do I "heal" my save game?

Well if the save game will load an you can play for a while then try to save an it crashes right then when you tried saving it, then master update with FNV edit (FO3 edit) which has repaired it in the past.

This should also allow you to load any mod in any order for example loading DeadMoney.esm after the .esp which you already had installed which is the load order that your save game is based off.

If you could load Dead Money last then where ever it overlaps in content with your "other mods" they would just be overwriten.

Neither case is Ideal. Once you change the load order all bets are off with the save games. It's pretty smart at figuring out what you just installed that totally bonked the never ending refrences, however it's still a risk anytime you do that. Personally I try not to, but if it's something small then okay. An I'll make edits to mods an then keep the same save game no big deal. Anything big I dump the save games. I'm not saying you should. When you do change something or add something you got to test, an if it fails you know what is wrong.

I'm currently building a fresh install of windows so I can't really say much else right now.

yah the issue of NVMM showing a load order as well as FNV edit an master update, then when FNV launches it loads them however it feels like, thus causing instant crash is still there.

Though it was fixed for a launch of the game or two, after some heavy edits to the mods to fix an clean I launched to instant crash. So I resorted back to the Fb_ Fc_ Fd_ method as seen below.

I'm going to start over. Is therte any way to try and re-download Dead Money? I tried to look for it on Steam but I would have to pay for it again.

UPDATE - Great, now when I tried to start a new game my game crashes after the intro screen.

UPDATE 2 - I disabled all MODS except for Fallout.esm and Dead Money.esm and I still get a CTD.

I think I'm gonna just trash the game. I give up.

Pfft. Frustrated?

Yah I get that.

Your game is trying to load DeadMoney.esm before loading FalloutNV.esm

Since DeadMoney.esm requires FalloutNV.esm to be loaded before it as a master to DeadMoney.esm

The game crashes before it even launches.

You can check this by looking in the data files tab on the games launcher.

You should see FalloutNV.esm at the very top an anything else should be below or beside it.

How do I master update? And what is FNV edit?
