thecrazydudesrd
Hello folks, and thank you ahead of time for joining me in this little journey. Some of you may have seen me on late night in the chat rooms (at least it's late for me) I recently posted up a small mod, a culmination of learning how to play with object placement in the GECK. (look here) I think I did a decent little job so far for a noob. But I am still a long ways to go. I'm also wanting to log some of my progress so far as to help other new people who are not so familiar with all this modding fun. This is the reason I'm posting this thread. I will keep it updated with my rambling thoughts and if someone wishes to devulge their wisdom, I would accept it with utter kindness and joy. I'm learning some 3d modeling using Blender 2.49 with the PyFYY and Nifskripts. I have a bit of time under my belt with Photoshop (Elements 3 yeah I know I roll ol' school and don't worry I already know about the GIMP.), and I have some knowledge of drawing thanks to various sources both currently living and long dead. (some of which I will thank within Bottega) So far I have been working on developing my meshes and textures for signs to be used in Bottega. I have one ready and integrated and two more on the way (they all been drawn up for a while... I just have to scan/paint/model'em) I'm also thinking on another venture as I work with this mod... a suplimentory mod. Modder's Integrated Resource Archive or MoIRA for short. (actually the third name I came up with for it but anywho) I seen a lot of very nice modder's resources on the Nexus and I was thinking of using a BSA + ESM combo to try to incorperate these other people's cool resources into something that Bottega can use... (and for another good note almost anyone else!) Of course this would mean that I'd had to gather the permission of all the individual modders themselves to do something like this, which is something I will be doing. I'm figuring on keeping the folder structure for MoIRA simple... /Mesh - Texture/Modder's Name/Object type/Object itself. This is all hypotheical but I figured it might get the attention of modelers and texture artists as I might get a chance to gather some good ideas. I'd like to hear any suggestions though. Thank you-SRD ==============EDITED FOR THE LIST OF MODDER'S RESOURCES================= To make things easier on people I'll post a list of users and/or objects that are free to use with credit. thecrazydudesrd
Hello again folks, A small update. I've found out that the kind folks who made Fallout Mod Manager had incorperated a BSA Creator! I had read that the BSAs are supposed to respond if they are named the same, however I believe I may have missed a step. I'll be searching for answers on this though. But if anyone reading this knows how to deal with BSAs. I'd be glad to recieve said knowledge. So far I also have the kind permission of RegentEagle to use his modders' resources in my little experiment. I've also been seeking out 'Free to use for free mods' sort of things and I seen the work of Skykappa. I may try my hand at incorperating it's various and plentiful resources for you all too. Nadin
I could probably provide a hefty list of resources. I suck at modeling, so I've scoured the site pretty thoroughly. There are probably about 200 files of decent size that can be used as a resource, without having to ask for permission. Credit would still be needed, of course. thecrazydudesrd
Nadin; Thank you, I would greatly appreciate it, I've been scouring myself and I'm wanting to put up a list of what I found. I'll gladly try my best to keep up. I have the readme set up as a word doc so I can use hyperlinks too. I have been trying recently to figure out how to create BSAs and Master files, that way I can reduce the size of the file as much as possible, and allow other mods to use the resources. So far I have gotten a master file to work, but when I have everything packaged in the BSA. I find it's nowhere to be found. I think it's something to do with how it's being packed up. I'm going to post pics of it and see how it can be helped. I might just stumble on the answer myself too, who knows. edit : Might have figured something out.I'm going to test this and get back. (this is the meshes bsa by the way) Edited March 26, 2011 by thecrazydudesrd
Nadin
What kind of models/textures are you looking for?
thecrazydudesrd
I'll take mostly anything. I'm currently building up the static objects, clutter, containers, animated stuff... Stuff that can be used for house mods and other creative means. I'll even take weapons and armor but I'm not very familiar on the additions of such yet. Although I have me some good news. I finally figured out the method of creating a BSA. I'm going to test into it a bit more later, took me a while to figure it out, but sometimes looking in other people's work can reveal answers. (It was my Relative Filepath. They had to reflect everything after the \Data\ folder.) Edited March 26, 2011 by thecrazydudesrd
Nadin
School just started up again for me, but I may be able to dig a bit later this week. I'll let you know.
thecrazydudesrd
Sorry I've been busy... but I have MoIRA(lpha) working out now (aside from a few little texture bugs which I'll fix here soon). I also been looking around also for 'Free to use with credit' stuff. I'll post them very soon, I just want to go in and organize it better so it would be easier to allow others to see 'em as so wires don't get crossed. I'll post them on the first post under a big edit line or something.
Nadin
Alright. I'm still busy, but here's a few:You have to notify them--not ask for permission, but notify--before you can use it, but otherwise everything by Daejones or Shubniggurath is free to use.DaiShiHun's work can be used for free, with credit. No notification or permission required.Classic Fallout Weapons can be used freely, so long as there's a link back.LordInquisitor does a lot of models that can be used freely with credit. The same goes for RegentEagle, although not always.
