in the fnvedit training manual it says

2. Install Fallout: New Vegas and FNVEdit in the C:\Games\Fallout New Vegas folder, which is not controlled by UAC and will prevent conflicts. (recommended)

can i install steam in it's default program filesX86 folder and the game seperately in the folder mentioned above and still get the steam updates and community access from steam automatically or should i install steam and fnv in the same C:\Games\FalloutNewVegas folder, or make a backup copy of fnv after steam updating from it's default directory and put it in games so it will match this destination directory mentioned in the fnvedit training manual

i do not quite understand how to do this and have installed, uninistalled, and reinstalled the game so many times i don't want any more trial and error or second guessing what i should do to get the best stabilty and performance out of the game when i start adding mods

sorry if i am making this question too overly complicated but any advice from someone who has used the install method from fnvedit training manual

could help, much appreciated ty,

in advance

i am using vista home premium 64

i think you misunderstood the whole point of this

what the manual meant was not that you install the game to that specific path

it is all about not installing the game to the default location, because it has many problems

as far as i know, you can only install Steam games to the same place as Steam, but this shouldn't be a problem for you

this is just a heads up, and a lesson learned from previous games (like Oblivion and Fallout 3)

so just make sure not to install the game to the default location, and you should be fine

BTW, if you understand about UAC and use it correctly, there is no reason to be afraid of installing under Program Files (x86). But many, many people don't understand UAC or don't use it correctly. Then they get confused when their files get saved in some unexpected location and they can't find them.
