Knightsof theRose
I'm new to these posts so i hope i'm doing this right. I can't figure out how to use the soul gems. Are they automatic? I have a few emply ones and can't figure out how to use them. Is there a website that has the manual you can download or something to help me out? Tiberiu911
You need to cast soulmark on the creature you want to capture the soul of. Depending on the creature's difficulty, you will require a larger soul gem. Humans can only be captured with a black soul gem.
nachtefuchs
To capture a soul, you must cast a spell called 'Soul Trap' on an enemy creature/NPC and then kill it before the spell runs out of time. Souls are automatically alloted to the smallest possible Gem in your inventory, so if you kill a Rat and capture it's soul while you have an empty Grand gem and an empty Petty gem, it will go into the Petty gem. The following was taken from Idiosyncrat's Enchanting Guide on GameFAQ's: +==============================================================================+| Petty................................................................05-01 |+==============================================================================+ Value: 150 Petty soul gems hold the lowliest of Cyrodiil's creatures: DeerDogGoblinMudcrabRatSheepSkeletonSlaughterfishStunted ScampWolf +==============================================================================+| Lesser...............................................................05-02 |+==============================================================================+ Value: 300 BoarGhostGoblin SkirmisherHorseImpScampSkeleton GuardianTimber WolfStunted ScampTrollZombie +==============================================================================+| Common...............................................................05-03 |+==============================================================================+ Value: 800 Ancient GhostBlack BearClannfearFaded WraithFlame AtronachGoblin BerserkerHeadless ZombieMinotaurMountain LionSkeleton HeroSpirgganWill-o-the-Wisp +==============================================================================+| Greater..............................................................05-04 |+==============================================================================+ Value: 1200 Brown BearDaedrothDread ZombieFrost AtronachGoblin ShamanLand DreughNether LichOgreSkeleton ChampionSpider DaedraStorm AtronachWraith +==============================================================================+| Grand................................................................05-05 |+==============================================================================+ Value: 1600 In addition to the regular Grand Soul Gem, the artifact Azura's Starcan also trap creatures with grand souls. You get the Star after completingAzura's Shrine quest; check my Side Quests Guide for more information on that. Some grand souls are: Gloom WraithGoblin WarlordLichMinotaur LordSavage OgreXivilai +==============================================================================+| Black................................................................05-06 |+==============================================================================+ Value: 1600 Black Soul Gems are the tools of Necromancers. They have the uniqueability to trap an NPC soul. You can get a Black Soul Gem one of two ways - they can be looted sometimes from necromancers (I haven't found one yet, but I know it happens) or you can make them. Easiest place to make them is at Dark Fissure, which you will have the map marker to if you progressed past "The Necromancer's Moon" in the Mage's Guild quests. Otherwise, it's due east of Vaermina' Shrine, just to the right of the "R" in "The Reed River." Bring an empty Grand Soul Gem with you and be sure you can perform a soul trap spell (not through use of a weapon!). Once you get to Dark Fissure, wait till it's between 1:00 and 3:00 AM. The day seems to differ from game to game. There should be a little moonlight shining directly on the altar outside the entrance to Dark Fissure. If not, keep waiting 24 hours until it does. Put your Grand Soul Gem in the altar and cast Soul Trap on it. Reopen the altar and you should have a Black Soul Gem. Guest Tessera
I'll just toss in a comment about the Umbra sword, too: if you equip that sword and carry Azura's Star with you as well, then you'll have a more or less endless supply of souls with you after every fight. Umbra's enchant is a Soul Trap spell and when you constantly have souls trapped in the Star, you can just keep recharging Umbra (and the rest of your gear) whenever you want to. Another nice plus is that Umbra has the highest base damage of any sword in the game. I wouldn't try to get it before level 20, though... as it's a leveled item and it really, really smokes when you get the high-powered version. Besides -- it just looks cool. :P
YourMomsSexFriend
Umbra is not a leveled item. Only umbra sword item in cs has ID "DAClavicusUmbraSword" you can check. so its always 28 damage(same as daedric warhammer).
