npvnpv
Apologies if this stopic has been visited before. Would reeeeeaaally appreaciate some help.Recently my game has been auto starting a new game whenever I startup FNV. No matter what I use to start it (4gb, steam, nmm, NVSE, standard .exe) and even if I deselect all mods (of which there are 133 active at present) I get the same outcome. It automatically starts a new game. However, it goes to a black screen with the HUD, completel with empty bars for health and AP, and the various plugins/dlc loaded messages come up, but it never goes past the black screen.Has this happened to anyone before? Is there a way to fix it without doing a clean install? It does not appear to be mod related, although I base that solely on disabling all mods and dlc on various attempts to fix it. It was playing absolutely fine, and has been for ages, problem free. Suddenly 2 hours later when I started it up (without adding or changing any mods/load orders, literally closed it then came back 2 hours later) this started happeneing. Occasionally it appears as if it is going to the generic in game menu, but then goes to a new game without the menu loading. Have been using mods for years, and have finally managed to got it to work flawlessly. Until now.If anyone has any advice it would be hugely appreciated. dubiousintent
Nearly two years later you are unlikely to get a response from anyone in the original thread. Which is why the forum rules call for you to start your own thread. The most likely reason for the game to automatically start a new game, is because it can't find any save files from an older one. Which probably means it doesn't see your "Users" folder. Did you run the game as a different user, then or now? (Each user has their own version of the game "save files".) Did you install it to the default Steam location under "C:\Program Files"? If so, please see the wiki "Installing Games on Windows Vista+" article for why the default Steam behavior of installing games to the "C:\Program Files" folder tree is bad and "disabling UAC and running as Administrator" is NOT sufficient, with instructions how to move it. This is the single most important thing you can do to protect yourself against problems in the future. If that isn't the case, please provide the information requested in the wiki "How to ask for help" article. -Dubious- Edited May 8, 2017 by dubiousintent
yDoublePrime
I'm currently having the same problem. This occurred after New Vegas crashed and I restarted my computer. Same description of what pops up, do any of you by some chance have a solution? Thanks.
dubiousintent
Did you try anything in the post immediately before yours? Do you still have any "save game" files in your "Users" folder? If they are missing, try retrieving them from the "Steam Cloud". Did you run a "chkdsk" when you rebooted after a crash? (You should always do this in that circumstance.) If you do resolve this, please let us know the solution so later someone in your position has an idea of what worked. -Dubious-
yDoublePrime
After the crash, my saves folder was still there. I've also tried to delete my saves folder and starting New Vegas up but still the same results (I had a backup of my saves). I've done the chkdsk but still no luck. I might have to start with a fresh install and work my way by installing the mods again instead of copy-pasting my current files. I'll post anything here if ever I found a quicker fix.
