DeadlyWarLord
My game is down right unplayable. I get a random crash about every five minutes, the game will freeze at random I haven't even been able to gauge a time estimate, and 90% of the time I can't save the game without it crashing or freezing. I've tried turning the mods off, my game never lagged to begin with, and the saves errors definitely started after I patched to 1.3- there's just no doubt it was the newest patch, Bethesda needs to get on the ball. SonDEreix
After the patch, my game doesn't crash to desktop, but I get random freezes and the environmental sounds you hear out in the wasteland play in every location, including all interior cells. I know for a fact it's not a mod causing it.
drakeelvin
I use next to no mods and all I seem to have gotten from the unidentified 1.3 "stability fixes" is regular game crashing where I had hardly any before; plus the cowboy rifles I've always preferred now suck because of much higher AP costs and I like to use VATS. At least I knew those "balance fixes" were coming before they released it so I prepared a few of my own weapons that I use. The "stability fixes" were more of a surprise because they didn't give much info on the particulars, but it's obvious somebody goofed on those. CaptainChaos
My game works perfectly for 5 minutes. Then *usually* after VATs, a death animation or opening a container, the game stutters and I get 15 FPS. It sometimes fixes itself (only to break another 5-10 minutes later) and sometimes doesn't fix itself at all. If I exit and re-enter, it is still messed up but if I restart my computer, it works fine; yet other programs, including Fallout 3 (which I tested out of curiosity) work fine even after the glitch. Basically, I can't play anymore :( UPDATE: HOORAH! I read something somewhere that said if you rapidly switch weapons it clears the issue... it's still a problem and welcome better more permanent solutions but I can work around it for now at least... SgtOvakil
When the game first released it was very stable, but with each patch that came along it just got worse. 1.3 patch has made the game almost unplayable. Befor the 1.3 patch I got some CDTs but not many with 60+ mods running, and thay were what I call a clean CDT. Now I cant even bring up the task manager. Im sick of hot booting my rig for this game. On top of all the crashing my head started exploding for no reason. When the game restarts from the last save my head pops within 1 or 2 min. Restarts again only to have my head blow off as soon as the game loads up. This has happened from one end of the game map to the outher. Took all mods out. Did not help at all. Wiped the game and steam from my rig, and reloaded steam and New Vegas without any mods at all. In a brand new install this mornning i made it as far as finishing the goodspring quests. Started down the road and my head exploded again. I am releaved it happened early in the game. My last game went 80.30 hours befor it started, and wouldn't stop. All I can say at this point is the latest 1.3 patch is a game breaker. The patch befor 1.3 wasn't mush better. Give us our game back I say. You know the one we bought!!! GrindedStone
Visual C++ And Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3,5, 4.0 - If you don't have them you should get them as they are widely used. Then if you have them and are having CTD, some players have cleared that up by un-installing Visual C++ an .NET framework, then installing it again. Also Steam suggests to have both the 32 bit an 64 bit versions of Visual C++ installed on 64 bit machines, which brings up the fact that none of us has been to the Steam support site to read the common problems with FNV. So maybe we should go there an see what Steam says particularly for users with the Win7 an Vista O/S.
CaptainChaos
Where on the Steam Support site is that info? the only thing I see is for DLC support? Also, I emailed steam support and never received an answer. Thanks.
amd64gamer
I'm curious. I've had great performance in New Vegas without any real problems aside from the occasional mod clash but those get figured out. Now that I updated to the latest game patch, my game is chockier, blockier, and crashier than ever. The newly updated NV stutter remover helps tons but the game is still much worse than it was before this latest patch. I could have played for hours without a crash, and now I get random crashes here and there (nothing like FO3 but still tons more than I did before in NV). So what are your experiences? Aside from crashes, I get lots of lag entering/exiting interiors. You guys? Same here. I did a clean install of New Vegas and downloaded Honest Hearts, Dead Money and the latest patch, and created a new character. Not only is the lag horrendous exiting and entering interior and exterior cells, but I can barely run two steps without a CTD anywhere. I never made it to the entry points for the two DLCs. A lot of the elements in the game world, inside and outside will randomly turn pitch black without warning. It's been a frustrating two days and I got no sleep last night trying to sort things out. So New Vegas is off my PC and staying off until Bethesda/Obsidian cleans up the mess they insist on making every time they ram through some hackneyed patch through Steam so that the game will sort-of work with new content. I absolutely HATE the inflexibility of Steam that prevents you from installing the game in the folder of your choosing and forces drive-by patching on you with no way to re-apply an older version to get your game going again. In the meantime can always play Oblivion and Fallout 3--which actually WORK...

I feel you pain and just pulled an all-nighter going through the same thing. This is Bethesda's version 1.5 game-breaking patch from Fallout 3's Broken Steel--on steroids. If we weren't tethered to Steam to the point of absurdity, we could download patches independently and reinstall previous versions that would at least let us continue playing the game without the DLC until Bethesda and Obsidian get on the stick and get things right the first time before inflicting it on their customers with these draconian and irreversible drive-by patches. I have an older build of New Vegas tucked away on my NAS that I will probably re-install disconnected from Steam when I have a day off from work next week. Sucks that I dropped the 18 bucks on unplayable content. But I won't make the same mistake again with the next title Bethesda rushes out the door. I think I'll wait about three or more months after the GOTY version is out after Bethesda retroactively fixes the game and the content for it. And I'll be waiting a least a month or more before going anywhere near Skyrimm.
