lighting tips

I am trying to understand lighting in the game, it's probably the thing I least understand even at a basic level after going through the bethesda tutorial. Any tips from you mod gurus would be awesome!

What is the difference between a light (light bulb marker) and an FxGlow (plus marker)? When would you use one vs the other? I put up a string of XMAS lights in a tent mod I am working and attempted to put a Fx Glow around but it made a harsh light lines on the ground, like the light just stops at some point but it is probably because I don't understand how this should be used properly.

What is emittance? If you use a light object, does it have a default emittance? I notice it gives off light even with emittance set to NONE but the emittance property can change the light to one of many flavors. But I also notice all objects, not just lights, can have the emittance set. What does it mean if you set the emittance on a toaster for example? Is the toaster supposed to give off light?

In terms of editing, I notice that 'L' only turns off the lines that show the light radius, it does not turn off the light bulb or glow field. So once you add a FxGlow, which typically are very large, it then becomes impossible to directly select any object within the field (select will only grab the FXGlow). Tapping '1' does not temporarily disable the field like it does other objects. How do you work around this?

Lights (light bulb marker) are actual "light sources" for the game, they have several settings available (radius, color, flickering, etc) They will lighten up the texture around according these settings. Most of them don't have a 3D mesh by default.

FxGlow are "Fake light", they are static object (a 3D mesh + a texture and/or material) designed to mimic rays of light and such but they don't light up the texture around. Their propreties can be edited in Nifskope, not in Geck. They're often used combined with Lights.

For the last point: pressing M will make markers visible/invisible.

Also, A will activate/desactivate your custom ligthing (rendering only)

This should give you some clues: http://geck.bethsoft.com/index.php?title=Bethsoft_Tutorial_Lighting

I'd like to learn more about Emittance myself.
