JMan240
Hello everyone! I'm relatively new to popping down here into the forum, but I've been lurking on the site since I built my PC a couple years ago. I recently graduated college, and find that between pitching freelance stories to game outlets and looking for anyone anywhere that will pay me consistent money, I have lots of free time. Writing stories takes a long time - some of you might even have a message from me in your inbox as part of my work on a story for Paste - and getting paid takes even longer. All that means, is that it's harder for me to maintain my abilities because I'm not working as much as I'd like to. The Paste story will be the first thing I've written since I finished up an internship with Game Informer in late April. My recent endeavor to get back into coding, which I originally went to college for, in turn propelled me back into lurking around the site and marveling at peoples' creations - even though I've been focusing on web code like JavaScript and JQuery. Getting back into mods led me here. As of now, I'd like to offer my services as an editor for English language mods here on Nexus. I have a BA in English, where I focused on literature, and a minor in communications, with a focus on journalism. I have several years of experience editing creative, academic, and journalistic / PR copy. I look at this as a mutually beneficial opportunity to keep my skills rock solid. I'm willing to help with the following:Edit scripts and other content from a creative perspective. If you want someone to give feedback on characters, dialogue, continuity, plot structure, et cetera, I'm game for that.Note: I don't pull punches when I edit content from this perspective. If something seems silly or absurd in a way that doesn't fit with what's going on, I'm going to tell you about it. That said, my goal as an editor is always to improve the skills of the person I'm editing for - I want to make you better, because it's both easier for me and in this case means I'll get to play better mods. Edit scripts and content from a technical perspective. You're confident in the story (or stories) you've written for your mod and want it to stay mostly the same. That's great! Confidence is a wonderful thing, but even the best writer misses something obvious without realizing it. If all you need is someone to catch your little slip-ups here and there, I'd be happy to do so.Edit Nexus posts for your mods. Effectively conveying information at a glance is hard, especially when you have other things to worry about like fixing that bug in your mod that makes players explode for no reason. I'd be happy to take a look at your mod page and help organize it into something more welcoming to those who check out your mod, and also more professional looking.
