DaddyPims
Hi all, first time modder here. I just learned the basics of blender, and I've finished my first mesh and UV mesh: http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/5498/m1helmet2.jpghttp://img21.imageshack.us/img21/6522/m1helmet1.jpg I was following this tutorial on how to get it into the game, but half the options he's talking about aren't there or are blank in Nifskope. So could anyone be incredibly kind and lead me from exporting from blender to getting it into the actual game? Thanks
davidlallen
There are tons of these tutorials, maybe that one is out of date. This one has gotten good reviews.
DaddyPims
Thanks for the help, but that doesn't really do what I need. I've gone back to the tutorial I'm following and have tried again. The problem I'm having is I need to paste the NifTriShape of my new item into the one of an existing item, in this case the combat helmet, but my item doesn't have a NifTriShape, only a NifTriStrip http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/1823/niffuck.jpg Can anyone lend a hand? Or supply a tutorial based around helmets?
davidlallen
I don't do much with nifskope myself; maybe an expert will come by. But this question is very frequently asked in this forum and the adjacent mod troubleshooting forum, and there are many tutorials. Have you looked at recent threads, at the tutorials in the fallout3nexus mod talk pinned faq thread, and at the 3D tutorial listing at bethsoft? DaddyPims
I'll try Fallout 3, thanks. I was worried it'd make a difference or actually didn't allow it to work in New Vegas. For anyone who's stumbled upon this thread, I'll give a general layout of what I've done. Made mesh, UV Map and Texture in Blender. Added skeleton parented to mesh, then exported as a NIF. Can't get anything to work properly in NifScope (although I have managed to get my NifTriShape) option up. When I load it in NifScope, it's also textureless, so I need to add the texture I put on the UV map in blender and actually get it into the game. Thanks again. Quetzlsacatanango
There's really no need to do any of that copy/past nitrishape stuff anymore. Those tutorials are from before we had fallout support in nifscripts, meaning you should be able to directly export a working nif from blender without all that mumbo jumbo (technical term). If you want to post your nif I can have a look at it. DaddyPims
Well that's incredibly awesome of you! Here's the file: http://www.mediafire.com/?imzt1deut0tm20e
davidlallen
@ Quetzlsacatanango, can you point out some "modern" tutorials? I tend to fire off tutorial links but I cannot evaluate if they are "modern" or not.
Quetzlsacatanango
It opens fine and seems to be rigged properly, but I don't see a UV on it.On your material buttons panel, go all the way to the right and click the map input tab, then tick UV (right now it says Orco). Then on the texture buttons panel, under texture type, choose image. Then on the right, under image, click load and browse to your dds texture file.*Then* go to UV editor and make sure it's still good. It looks like you already set up the mapping there so it may just work as it is. Then select the skeleton and export nif. I did those steps and was able to export a nif that opened right up in nifskope, textured and all. It's a cool helmet, I have a nice use for it if you ever end up releasing it. davidallen- try the one I posted (armor mashups for fallout). It doesn't cover the UV stuff I just described but will show you most other stuff you would want to do, not involving creating new meshes from scratch. http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Creating_armor_mashups_for_fallout Edited March 1, 2011 by Quetzlsacatanango
DaddyPims
I used some common sense and converted the JPEG to a DDS. It's got the textures, but it still won't load it GECK due to "invalid directory". What I don't know how to do is load it in GECK and make it an actual item, then package it in a way that I can run it in my game.Sorry to be a pain and ask you to spoon feed things to me; but you have been incredibly helpful.
