Blood Decal Problems

Black Fox

Recommended Posts

ive recently changed the settings on oblivion to increase the amount of blood, but now even though the weapons and floor receive a nice splatter, no npc (or even monster for that weird matter) has ANY blood showing with 1 exception

im in first person view, my character bleeds all over(or at least the upper body/arms from what you can see in first person tfc), but in 3rd person the blood dissapears and when hit, i either get no blood whatsoever, or the feet, legs, and hands recive all the splatters, not the body, arms, face, abdomen, or anything. this is also the same with any npc i hit as well, only the feet, legs, and hands

i changed the blood settings according to a site that had realistic results, but its not seeming to work

if possible, could anyone find what different results the numbers for the blood settings give, ive changed 5 of them(note, if possible i want to keep the length of time and max amount without glitches)

fDecalLifetime=1200.0000

iMaxDecalsPerFrame=500

bDecalsOnSkinnedGeometry=1

fMinBloodDamage=0.0100

bUseThreadedBlood=3 (doesnt seem to make any noticeable change at 0-3 from what ive tested)

please help if possible, thanks

Well first off... the "UseThreadedBlood" entry only has two possible options: "0" for "Off" or "1" for "On." Also, it only works with Hyperthreaded or dual-core CPU's... on other types, it has no meaning. This is also true for all of the other "Threaded" options in the file.

When you say you changed the settings to get more blood, is that all you did..? Or did you use some mod (like "Gorier Blood") to get what you were after..?

Your "MaxDecalsPerFrame" is set so absurdly high that it may simply have gone over the top. I have mine set at "15," for comparison. There's no point in having it set much higher than 20, as it refers to the number of individual splotches of blood that can appear in any given frame. Were you expecting to actually see FIVE HUNDRED SEPARATE POOLS OF BLOOD at once..? Not possible, not even in a city-wide massacre. :P

Your Decal Lifetime is fine. I have mine at around 900, but 1200 is fine. It just refers to how long blood decals will remain visible, before fading away from sight.

MinBloodDamage is set too low. The default is 1.0 and you have yours set at 1/100th of that. You're basically telling the game's engine to make you bleed if the wind blows, or if a mouse farts at you from across the room. I don't think it can understand that, so it may simply be ignoring that parameter altogether.

heh, i was wondering about alot of those myself, im gonna check to see if thats what happened though, the reason for the 500 though is that it gives the blood a darker red color when it splotches(sometimes i looks kinda bright red) but im gonna bring it down to 20-50 to see what difference it makes to the characters

but thanks for the confirmation, im not too familiar with this kinda stuff

(also, no i didnt use the glorier blood mod)

having new problems now -.-

new options are

bUseThreadedBlood=1

fMinBloodDamage=1.0000

bDecalsOnSkinnedGeometry=1

iMaxDecalsPerFrame=20

fDecalLifetime=1200.0000

since i changed it two things have happened:

1. my character shows NO blood at all...others still bleed only from the legs and feet

2. in 1rst person, the blood no longer shows up on my weapon( half the reason i wanted to change the settings was to have a bloody weapon)

can anyone tell me what might be wrong :huh:

anything out of the ordinary might work as well, but i didnt change ANY settings other than these 5, i have noticed the decal lifetime setting goes back to default if you use the video options ingame, so could other things be messing with my settings?

  • 3 years later...

Black fox I have the same issue, people only bleed on the extremities, but blood does show up on my weapons like a machete.

My attempts to increase blood stay were successful though.

Edit: Blegh, thread Necro and I apologize, but I found the solution, so this might help others.

Make sure in Fallout_defaults.ini that bProfileDecals is set to 0, so it is bProfileDecals=0. Once I did this blood began showing on people's bodies again.
