freestonew
Hi all. which override folder should the mods install to, the one in documents, or the one that is in the programfiles section?! a stupid simple question here folks, I first installed the texture files for the JB textures in the program folder program files/dragon age...override folder. Then i installed a bunch of mods using DaModder and it placed files in the documents/dragon age....override folder! I then was a bit questioning, there are about 4 GIGS of textures for the Jb mod. I copied the program files override to the documents override so that BOTH overrides have the same material, but this is 8+ gigs. so does it matter which override folder is used? can i delete one set of texture files, then? I have disable UAC for my windows 7. thanks for answering this utterly simple basic question: i cannot even search rhew bioware social, at the moment and I cannot even post when i log in! thanks...freestone
Thandal
Welcome, freestonew; (Wow! Over 6 years a member and only 8 posts?) Anyway, the "\override" folder in the "\Programs [(x86)]\Dragon Age" path is there specifically as a means for BioWare to replace core game files through patches WITHOUT removing originals. (I don't believe they've actually used this method, but it's possible, which is why some modders have used it as well.) Placing anything there also means that it will override the vanilla game's equivalents for ALL users of the system, not just the specific player logged-on at the time. Short answer is that you can probably use it instead of the one under your profile, but be aware that you will then have to manually manage all kinds of files and paths that would otherwise be in their default locations. If you have the UE, this may be less of an issue than it otherwise would be, since with the UE, all the official DLC is under the "\Program Files" folder, rather than in "\[user's profile]\Bioware\Dragon Age\addins". (Not sure about the various "bonus" items though. Again, you can probably re-locate them manually...) Last word: I STRONGLY recommend AGAINST disabling UAC. By doing that you are allowing ANYTHING that can get it full-access to your system under your account privileges. Presuming you're an Administrator, that's the access you're granting to anything that can execute. This is especially not necessary under Win7, since the UAC is much less obtrusive. Good Luck! freestonew
Welcome, freestonew; (Wow! Over 6 years a member and only 8 posts?) Good Luck!thanks. over 8 years.. yes, I once installed DA under vista on an older computer, then I bought the "new" one for a cable internet connection and the joy of cable speed and no more dialup or libary computer, plus 1000 orhwere games and life and all of that, meant that i never got around to actually play it! now I hope to try. 69 years old, my senior home has so many social activities plus my walks, coffee shops, 10 hours of needed sleep at night, i need 40 hour days! so that is why..... I guess i can delete thos texture files in one of the overrides then, the program files one. freestone
