kingtitan
I think the safest thing to do is to stick to strictly constructive criticism. Don't be afraid to let mod authors know if their mods need bug fixes and such. But also keep in mind the fact that modders provide their mods as a priviledge to the modding community, not as a right. I know of plenty of authors who have taken their work elsewere because of snoody critics who 1) Can't mod and 2) Think they have some right to tell the author where there mod persay "belongs". I don't necessarily know that something like that would get you banned, but it is nevertheless an excellent rule of thumb to remember. Just remember to not use vulgar or offensive language and dont flame or spam. Just keep it clean and you will be fine. Make sure that it pertains to area of the forums that it is in. Finally, if you embed links or photos, make sure the picture is clean or the link is really what it claims to be. Best rule of thumb I can give you: Use common sense. God gave it to us all for a reason.
Ento
Yea I checked out the banned list and so many people got banned for bad critizism or swearing. Just want to make sure saying anything isnt going to be considered trolling.
DarkNinja13
Also worth noting, if the mod in question "breaks" your game, give yourself a bit of time to cool off before reporting it. All the bile and rage you might be choking on can (and in all likelihood will) get you banned if you vent it in the File Upload thread. For instance:I had the Unofficial Oblivion Patch that TONS of people are using with no issues, go totally catty-wumpus on me and I formatted my hard drive (I thought it was because of a virus in a mod I got from a Russian site). When I found out what it really was, I was 18 shades of completely P.O.'ed over it (I formatted and didn't need to at all). BUT...after a few days, I got to thinking about what went down and all the good things about it; clearing up crap I really didn't need or wasn't using, loosing some rather unimpressive/hideous mods I had merged into one, and so forth. When I did comment on it, I explained that the Patch caused my Oblivion to not load at all, and I was just going to not use it. Truth be told I am using it now, though not all of it - I pulled the .esp files for Vampire Face fix and Companion Double face bug for use and dumped the rest, and my Oblivion works just fine now (essentially, I am using the two features that made me download it in the first place). Just stay chilled about things and you have nothing to worry about when commenting

We have a strict zero-tolerance policy for the breaking of our terms and people can and will be banned from the site without warning if they ignore them. Remember; ignorance is not an excuse. The commenting, endorsement and rating system is available on Nexus sites to provide users with: an interface to offer positive feedback on the functionality of the file in question based on the author’s initial intentions the ability to offer constructive criticism on aspects of the file that could be improved the chance to ask for feature requests and discuss such requests with other users of the site or the author the ability to ask for help in troubleshooting problems with the file in question If your comment does not fit in to the above criteria then do not post. If you disagree with the content of a file on the site then do not post. Simply ignore the file and move on. If you believe the content of the file breaches the Nexus terms and conditions then please report the file for moderator viewing and move on, do not take matters in to your own hands. If your comment contains text that is likely to personally offend other users of the site either in the language you use or the message of your text then do not post. We take personal attacks very seriously and you will be banned without warning. If you believe that someone else’s post does not fit into these criteria then you are encouraged to report the comment in question for moderator review. Above all do not post in reply to the offending comment however good intentioned your post might be, even if you are the author of the file in question. This is known as “feeding the trolls” and “forum vigilantism” and is frowned upon by the moderator staff. You may well end up with a suspension from the site if you partake in this activity. This site has extremely dedicated moderating staff who have full authority to edit and delete posts as well as ban accounts instantly and without warning. However the moderating staff cannot possibly read and keep up-to-date with every single comment, rating and file posted on the site. It is up to you, the users of this site, to help keep this site clear of the people who just want to ruin it for everybody by reporting violations of these conditions to the moderators, either through the provided reporting features on the site or via forum PM to the moderating staff. Lets see.... Lore mongering in a mod upload thread. Arguing with other members about stuff that doesnt have ANYTHING to do with the mod itself, cussing people out, swearing in the mod upload threads in general, overdoing it with the swearing in the open forums, posting one liners to bump threads, starting new threads when an old one doesnt get any responses.... Ohhhh and lets not forget the lovely Do not create a new account to bypass a previously banned account there... Thandal
I thought that Dark0ne (with help) did a great job spelling it out in the Terms of Service (which the OP agreed to when becoming a member... Remember?) See DarkeWolf's [ spoiler ] hidden extract, above. It's pretty common sense stuff. (Now if only "common sense" were more common! )

Pushkatu
You got some very good examples and advices from the others members, but yeah the most important thing is to stick close to the rules. Don't do stuff you THINK it's right. What's good for you, might be seen as a bad thing by others. Double check your posts when you post in a debate or when you're trying to provide feedback and always read the readme before installing something. Some mods are buggy indeed, but most of the time, the authors mention the said bugs in the readme, so everything you use, you do so on your own risk. All the files available for download are free and we get as much support for them as the authors think it's necesary. The only thing I can't realy stand, it's when I see an old member that joined like 2 or more years ago, and never posted up to a point and when he/she did so, the first thing they had to say was "your mod is a piece of crap". That's just wrong. It's obvious they downloaded like tons of mods, had a great time playing the game with mods, but when they run into a trouble the first thing they say is that. Don't do that, ever. If you think you can't give positive criticism, than just avoid doing so and move on to things you DO enjoy and understand. Enjoy your stay here and I hope it will be a long one! Cheers and beers,Pushkatu EDIT: I just noticed you have been banned. Well, that's not a nice way to start and my comment is now pointless, anyway... Edited March 4, 2011 by Pushkatu
