Sync182
My guess would be an out-of-date video card driver. For a total novice, use "Windows Update" (from within Internet Explorer, go to "Tools", then "Windows Update") to see if there's a newer one available via Microsoft. For the more experienced user, go to your video card vendor's support page and look for the most recent verison for your card. If you know how - it's generally considered to be a Good Idea to uninstall your existing drivers (easiest way is in Device Manager and remove the video card), then do a restart and point Windows at the folder where your new drivers are when Plug'n'Play finds your video card.Good approach. But best to have the new driver handy for after you "remove" (not physically, just on the Device Manager configuration screen) your current video card. Windows will ask for it as soon as it detects that the card is present. and MS doesn't always have the most recent one on file. Kinda what I meant to say... :whistling: DL updated drivers and unzip/expand into a specific folder. Delete/remove your existing card from Device Manager and do a system restart. On startup, Windows will detect a "new" video card and go looking for drivers; tell it to look manually and go to the folder where your new drivers are located. If your Driver DL is an installer, use the default MS drivers for your card and run the installer when your PC has finished restarting (the installer will take out the MS drivers anyway). If your installer gives you the option to remove existing drivers first, then do that option and ignore everything else above. Dontcha just love options? :wallbash:
TheRoc
I would download CCleaner which is a free program, this will check for files that are no longer supported and also registry keys that are no longer needed. Install and run the file locater first and delete the files it recommends and then run the registry cleaner and fix those. That should help. http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner Let me know how you get onNaomi Hey thank you Naomi and Thandal and all,I grabbed CCleaner and ran it. I uninstalled my driver and restarted, allowing XP to find and install the required driver and restart again. I set my res and display and opened DA:O and viola! Cut scenes look mighty noice to look upon in all their chrystal clarity. :) One final question; does CCleaner come packaged or attached to Google Chrome does anyone know? Seems I now have (had) Google Chrome as my default browser - CCleaner and the new driver were the only things Ihave downloaded today. If it does, it snuck right on in there and installed without my permission or even warning me - scared the crap out of me when I opened my browser!! Thandal
Yeah, there was a tick in a box that you allowed to remain when you installed CCleaner. I did the same thing, and I usually watch for that... Had to re-set my primary browser afterwards, and uninstall Chrome.  But glad to hear you got it sorted!
