azzkiker23
I recently just upgraded my comp. The specs are:nVidia 8800 GTSIntel Core 2 Duo 6600Biostar nForce I945P moboWestern Digital 160 gig Sata2 Every other game I have installed runs fine without any crashes. The current installed games are:Half-Life 2/Counter-Strike SourceRome Total WarBattlefield 2142Guild Wars Every so often my game will crash (the windows "program is not responding" message), even though it runs fine on all high settings (until the crash). I'm currently running the game on 1280x1204 as thats my monitors max res. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this problem? I saw that my video card is not on the list of compatibility, but I assumed it would be fine because of how new the card is. The vid card drivers are updated to the most recent. =( I love this game but it kinda sux having to worry about crashes during gameplay. Sometimes it will crash alot more than other times too. Anyone have any suggestions to help with this? Any help at all or ideas will be greatly appreciated.
Guest Tessera
Check your Forceware settings. Make sure everything is set to "Application Controlled." I run Oblivion on the 8800 GTX model, without problems. It did take a little tweaking at first, though.

I have a couple of those in my machine and I'm trying to get them setup to run oblivion full throttle (wishful thinking?) Smollett

You're using the GTS... I'm using the GTX. I run a single GTX with nVidia's latest 64-bit drivers (I use Windows XP 64). They seem to be fine and I don't have any troubles with Oblivion. I simply adjusted various Forceware settings to enable the card to run flat-out on the game. I also don't overclock anything except the RAM in my system... although it isn't really overclocked, it's just set to its maximum speed as recommended by the manufacturer (it's "enthusiast memory"). You might try contacting nVidia. Your model of 8800 is very new and it may have a few kinks in it. They would know best. It's certainly fast enough to run Oblivion or any other game, so my guess would be that it's a driver issue. Give them a call.
Smollett
I have the GTX's SLI'd in my machine. Things run pretty good but you notice that they have to strain a bit out in the country side. Looking at the setup I've got it setup to let the app handle the business end. So far I've had no problems except with Morrowind. For some reason either they or some other component does not like morrowind and I get infrequent crashes and hold ups. They do a bang up job on NWN 2 which is beautiful to a fault. Just wanted to see how you did the setup to see if there was something I could do to run a little bit better for scenes in the countryside. I imagine though, it isn't the cards. jameswholahan
I have the same basic setup! 8800 GTS Card with 1 GB Ram, Intel 6600 cpu on XP Pro. Even in heavy battle I do not experience any slowdown, the graphics are great, but some animations move in slow motion, like fire and magic spells. It takes a couple minutes for a fireball to dissipate! When I heal myself the magic cloud that swirls around me briefly moves in slow motion and follows me around for a few minutes, obscuring my vision. Sounds like you need to run Animation Fixer: http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=5127 This is an Oblivion save-file bug, nothing to do with your setup.
