Game won't boot with mods

I can't be the only one having the issue of the game not even starting up with mods installed since the last update.

The mods merge in ModManager and it says 'task completed successfully', but when i try to start it up, it shows up in my background processes but it doesn't start up the window. I was wondering if there was any way around this, because I honestly don't want to play the game without my mods installed.

What version of mod manager are you using? Unless you are using mod manager v 0.53 mods will not work with the latest game patch.

If that isn't the issue, then I would try repairing your game. Delete your Patch_ModManagerMerged folder, sign into Origins, repair your game, remerge your mods with mod manager and let it create a new Patch_ModManagerMerged folder, and then see if your game runs.

If neither of those solutions work, then it could be a mod conflict that's causing the game to glitch.

I'm using ModManager v 0.53 alpha, and I've repaired and removed all the mods. It runs without mods installed, but even if I try to install one of the mods i have, it just doesn't work. I've tested out just using one at a time and no matter which mod I use it doesn't boot. I've also looked up updates for the mods, and have all the latest versions.

Hmm....did you, by any chance, create a "merged" folder in your game directory on top of the Patch_ModManagerMerged folder? If so, delete the folder that just says "merged" if you created an additional one. You no longer need to create one yourself with the current mod manager. (it creates the folder for you)

Also, are you sure you have the most recent patch? When you highlight the patch in the mod manager, does the text off to the right say version 9 or something else?

I checked my modmanager and it does say 'version 9'

I also realized I had the Merged folder still in with the files, so I deleted that one, and attempted to boot up the game again.

Unfortunately it still didn't work. It shows up like this:

When I try to boot, in the 'background processes' section, and, as you can see, not doing much of anything.

Did you download the mod manager program itself, or did you download it through DAI Tools Suite? I highly recommend redownloading mod manager through DAI Tools Suite if you haven't already, if only because you'll have the most updated version of 0.53 (there were two released: one that required a work around in order for the game to work with mods if you had any of the DLC, and one that was released a few days later where the work around was no longer needed)

If that's not it, could you list the steps you followed for installing mod manager?

I ran into this issue myself and spent two hours trying to find a solution. I'd installed the DAIsuite, everything was updated, I'd repaired, uninstalled, reinstalled ad infinitum...

Come to find out the "updated" version of the Mod Manager that I was using was actually an outdated install. Instead of using the one in the "tools" folder in the DAIsuite, I was using the original install of my Mod Manager that I had been updating as the various releases were released. The issue was that I had assumed that when the Suite updated the Mod Manager, it updated my original install (i.e. the one I had in a separate folder and had been using since the beginning), but that was not the case! It came with one of its own in the Tools folder.

Might not be OP's exact problem, but... I'm sure I'm not the only one to goof up like that. Sometimes the most confounding problems have the simplest answers.

Long story short, steps I'd try:

1. Delete Patch, Black Emporium, and your Merged Patch folders.
2. Repair your game using Origin
3. Re-download the Black Emporium
4. Using the Mod Manager found in the /Tools folder in your DAI Tools Suite directory, make a new merged patch.
5. Try it!

Some other info I saw included outdated drivers, and even the Origin in-game feature as problem-makers that could cause your game to run in the background. It might not necessarily be mod-related, unfortunately.

I'm a little late to the party but I saw this while trying to solve my own issue and thought I'd share the reminder.
