Heroesandvillains
After 15 hours of smooth and stable gameplay, last night everything went crazy and I had multiple crashes and freezes. I'm running Windows 8 on an Alienware Alpha i5. Here's my load order, and beneath I'll detail my issues. I'm launching with 4GB FONV and have installed NVSE and anti-stutter as well. Though I can't say if it's actually gone because I'm seeing NPC's I don't ever remember in the vanilla game. Specifically, the doctor in Novac is always standing with two people (one with a red beret). Above my "My Merged Patch" I do have a previous merged patch unchecked. Perhaps that's my problem? Anyway, after 15 hours of smooth sailing, last night I paused the game to step out of the room. When I returned, the screen was sitting at the desktop and my game was minimized to a black screen. I clicked on the game tab. It opened up to a black screen, then flickered to the game, then flickered to a black screen again before it finally crashed to the desktop. At the desktop, I'm greeted with the message that "Program Compatibility Assistant" was going to implement some changes. In looking that up, I find it extremely strange that after 15 hours Windows would suddenly see a conflict. So to be safe, I rebooted the system. I'm then greeted with two brand new desktop.ini shortcut icons on my desktop (apparently, these are harmless), and a prompt to update to the newest Nvidia driver. I updated and installed. A few more hours into the game, everything was going well, but then the game suddenly locks up so bad that I had to enter task manager for it to shut down. I launched the game again, and while walking around with Boone, the game just totally freezes during combat. I'm really at a loss as to why this is suddenly happening. Dell wants me to go back to my previous driver but my issues started with the old driver. My game was so stable up until last night when out of nowhere I have two crashes and two complete freezes. Is it possible that my previous merged patch is causing issues or are there remnants of A World of Pain that I need to still delete? Or do I need to do an Archive Invalidation or created a new merged patch? I could really use some help here.
