kelticpete
I am playing F: NV through steam. I have had problems with crashes before but updating my driver worked the first time, and other times I uninstalled and reinstalled game. I am running the main file, dead money, and a few mods. I had added some mods recently but the crashing began so I a) threw away those mods B) reinstalled game and the few mods I wanted to keep. I have updated driver, I have defragged, I have cleaned out temp folders, not sure what else to do. it keeps crashing one of three ways 1) freezing up in load screen (rare) 2) freezing up in combat or when the area finishes loading and you can see where you are (less rare) 3) the desktop comes up suddenly like the game has been minimized, and I can't get back to game and the game is not responding...then crash. I am using ArcadeGannon_RehireFix.espAWorldOfPain(Preview).esmDeadMoney.esmFalloutNV.esmGoodspringsBasics.espMercenaryPack.esmNewVegasBounties.espPerkEveryLevel.espTales from the Burning Sands.esmTibersmapmarkers.espVault11HouseFix.espXP_Slower_100.esp DXDIAG in spoiler ------------------System Information------------------Time of this report: 3/5/2011, 10:06:20 Machine name: TEXASPETE-PC Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 32-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_gdr.101026-1503) Language: English (Regional Setting: English)System Manufacturer: ECS System Model: G31T-M7 BIOS: Default System BIOS Processor: Pentium® Dual-Core CPU E5300 @ 2.60GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.6GHz Memory: 4096MB RAMAvailable OS Memory: 3328MB RAM Page File: 1197MB used, 5452MB available Windows Dir: C:\Windows DirectX Version: DirectX 11DX Setup Parameters: Not found User DPI Setting: Using System DPI System DPI Setting: 96 DPI (100 percent) DWM DPI Scaling: Disabled DxDiag Version: 6.01.7600.16385 32bit Unicode ------------DxDiag Notes------------ Display Tab 1: No problems found. MadMann135
The game is really twitchy.First and foremost Fallout.esm should load first. Second - For some reason the game is really weird about saves. Do not use the auto-save and do not over wright current saves with new ones. This will corrupt your save file in strange ways. There are ways to optimize the INI file but that is for more advanced users (Everyone who mods/Plays Fallout on PC should know how to do this in my opinion). NOTE with steam there is a handy feature called "Verify integrity of Game Cache." Learn about it and use it to verify your game files from time to time REQUIRED - Fallout Mod Manager - FOMM, download and learn how to use it.Strongly suggested - FNVEdit, Very useful even if you are just making merge patches.optional - BOSS for NV, helpful for those unfamiliar with organizing game mods Edited March 5, 2011 by MadMann135

I used FOMM to put fallout.esm first and then loaded game from fomm menu. have not messed with ini but am willing too. EDIT: I downloaded BOSS and ran it. not very complex. I had 3 mods it did not order but they are very small mods Edited March 5, 2011 by kelticpete
MadMann135
Let me start off by saying that the game engine is crap, it is out dated, buggy and is being pushed beyond what it can handle.Second - the programmers and debuggers at Befesta (SP) need to be fired (preferably out of a cannon) as I am surprised that the game is semi playable (redeeming quality their writers are phenomenal).Third - The modification engine is broken this is why we need to work around the damaged areas, and figuring out how to properly load your mods is key.Fourth - The game NEEDS to be optimized for a computer. (There are 3 INI files that you can edit for your dual core, telling the game to allocate more ram does help some problems, but not all [i am running 50+ mods and a ton of high definition textures. I told the game to allocate 2 gigs of RAM and utilize all 4 of my cores not many crashes since, I also use a mod called 'purge cell buffers'])Fifth - The latest patch broke as many things as it fixed. I am having problems with saves as a result. That was a bit of a rant. That all being said I think you should do some INI research and work on organizing your mods.
