Converting .OBJ files for Skyrim

How easy would it be to convert .OBJ files to implement as an armour/clothing mod in Skyrim? I know almost nothing about modding, but I noticed that Nifskope has a function for importing a .OBJ file. It's for a selection of Scottish kilts that were originally made for Mount & Blade: Warband.

The problem with obj -> nif conversion directly, is that the obj file format does not retain any rigging/weight painting information. So you could import it--but without re-rigging it would be a static ;). I am actually--or actually again--working on a great-kilt mod and have decided to see if can crib geometries to some extent from the files you link to. Also, it looks like, while they were made for warband, they are not finished, ready to import, files. Since the author seems to have a very liberal "use" of assets policy, I may crib more than I think. I can't re-rig the whole thing--that's beyond me. But it has to be rigged in some way in the warband file. . . upon reading further, that has not yet been done. If the node values and the shapes are consistant, I think I can use weight wrap to approximate it. But I'm still not up to speed since my last laptop commited suicide. I've actually been working on a great-kilt mod forever--or at least on-and-off depending on interest. Mine, and other people's. Bodyslide is not a really good way to convert these things--as it is not a real 3d modelling program.

But I have been working on it--so you can't claim no one has. I think a lot of people found the tartan re-texture of the stormcloak uniforms as "good enough," or "someone has done that already," But I will soldier on :P. Besides actually installing nifskope and the 3dsMax plugins, I guess I have everything I really, really need to do most of it--just not the UV maps. Maybe I could steal those, too. . . .

But part of the issue is that it seems like the warband models are designed to be smaller/less detailed than Skyrim meshes. That, or thay really wanted to limit the number of polys for some other reason. I think it can be worked with, though. . . .

Whenever You're able to make that Great Kilt mod, I would love to see it.
