To Maim

Maiming doesn't work.

Using a 10mm pistol and TGM for testing purposes, I shoot a raider in the hand which should disable that hand.

BUT it doesn't.

I shoot the raider's weapon which should at least make it dangerous to fire, but the raider just drops it and picks it up again and it fires as though undamaged.

I shoot the raider in one or both legs but he sprints after me like an Olympic runner.

Why doesn't maim work?

I shoot his dog, why are vicious, wild dogs teaming up with vicious people?, in the leg, said dog should be too crippled to do anything other than lay there and whine.

NOT.

I have knoticed (wtf why does that word not have a k in the front of it? It refers to something of which you gain Knowledge. F it I am keeping the K in front of it...) anyhow, I Knoticed that shooting people in the legs usually makes them limp a little which slows them down maybe... 25%? Not much... shooting the arms seems to make them drop their gun and I think it supposedly decreased their accuracy a little bit but not by much... Yeah, probably another feature well thought but ill implemented by Bethesda.

 Very true. I don't get too caught up in that detail usually, since it isn't like you can disarm someone and then talk to them. Nope, you can be in PA and pointing your Flamer at a naked guy with just a switchblade and on his last HP - and he'll still try to gnaw on your leg instead of doing the smart thing, no matter what.

Thinking on it a little, perhaps (a) the bar for non-fatal maiming effects is set very high - as in "just" short of lethality; and (b) effects take time to be implemented in the system - if you kneecap someone (for example), will the AI slam on the brakes instantly, or take time to do so? Just a couple of thoughts.
