Old nexus links taking me to games page?

Does anyone ever have the problem with older nexus links redirecting to the games list page? I've had this problem with tons of links I've seen posted recently and even for mods that I know still are up on the nexus, but for some reason when copy+pasting the URL it just takes me to the games page.

My current issue is what seems to be a machine translated mod's amazing readme of:

"You should add them manually through CS Tool.
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=30707
Please make ESP yourself referring to this."

Regarding the VB hair mod. I have no idea what mod he is even linking to as when I copy and paste the URL it literally takes me to this page: http://www.nexusmods.com/games/? even though I still see the URL's ID=number thing or whatever at the end.

I keep having this problem and can't recall all the mods with links that do this but this is just the most current one I've had a problem with. Does anyone else have this problem and know how to fix it? It makes it impossible for me to figure out what the hell people are linking to since many people in forums and whatever else that bring up a mod don't even say the name of what the mod they are linking is and just throw the URL which never seems to send me anywhere but that games page.

Those mods where from back when Morrowind and Oblivion mods where grouped as TESNexus. When they changed to reflect the individual games a code was set up to send any one looking for the old addresses to the main games page.

Seems that many older posters and mod authors never got the memo to update their post.

Just keep in mind that even though URLs have changed over the years, the file number of the mod remains the same. So just use the syntax for the filesite of whichever game you're dealing with, and add the file number at the end after mods/ -- e.g., for Oblivion, it's: http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/..... or for Morrowind: http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/...... (Mouse over the URLs to see them properly spelled out; for some reason, they got truncated when I posted this!)

You should be able to find a mod from any out-of-date reference this way.

Or if you don't want to fix the links everytime by hand, you could try this script: https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/10817-redirect-old-oblivion-nexus-mods-links

According to the author it does work with the Tapermonkey extension for Chrome or the Greasemonkey extension for Firefox.

Thank you so much for that advice, Bess, and that even more helpful script tool, Selene; obviously neither of you are hearing this but the thought's out there.

Stick around before getting on me for necromancing it up because there's something I want today's mod discussion community to hear. After that, do what you've got to do (like auto-lock old threads if gravedigging is a problem):

So here's my rant that's been building: When referencing a mod, *please* actually state its name and not just post a URL! This drives me nuts because it's so thoughtless - URLs will not be active forever and it takes no more effort to give the name of the mod yet bizarrely it seems to have become the done thing to just say "This mod: tesnexus.com/deadlink, and this mod: texnexus.com/...". Even if the links were still active, it's so irritating to force the reader to click on all the links to see what you're talking about because you didn't say their names (names are not in the links, just ID numbers).

While I'm ranting about maddening modder/gamer habits, the insistance on using acronyms has to be the single most off-putting bad habit among all communities. It's an Elder Scrolls community so TES is expected. Outside of that, there's rarely reason to not type the name once and then use acronyms if repeated - you may think that everyone knows what NMM and OMM are, and eventually those who grind will become familiar with all the popular utilities, but I'm betting we can all type fast enough that it's not done out of energy saving, just convention.

Any discussion is near guaranteed to contain numerous strings of letters referencing various mods that require you to already know about them - every community becomes a gated community. Again, eventually I will become familiar with the metalanguage but so seldom is it necessary: one person types the words once in the discussion and from there acronyms are identifiable to all.

Again, that's not exclusively a modding or gaming problem, we just seem to be among the worst offenders. So now that's out there too.
