darkus37
TrooperScooperMKII - since this train is in an amusement park, it doesn't have to exactly fit a typical train design in New Vegas, right? Why not go back to the future/steampunk with it? In this way, it doesn't even need real moving parts like pistons, you can use the same type of animation that the gears that rotate in OWB use for the wheels and just a smoke fx for the exhaust. As for bells, if this is basically going to be an NPC, why not make it like E-DE (when going into combat) and have it play a bell sound when moving. TrooperScooperMKII
An interesting thought, that engine/style would be great for an in-verse loco (i.e. outside the park) BUT as an explicit western-themed park, I feel that an "accurate" model is preferable. Besides, it's almost done. (Almost...)
TrooperScooperMKII
Not too much left, but then my progress has really slowed down. The rear "suspension" in particular ate up a lot of time and sanity, vertices all over the place... it was a mess. Also I THINk that somewhere in there is where the blueprints got messed up. http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/9049/bellx.pnghttp://img845.imageshack.us/img845/1518/undercarriage.png http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/3268/tender.png http://img577.imageshack.us/img577/7509/suspensionp.png http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/6962/detailsn.pnghttp://img717.imageshack.us/img717/4237/blueprints.png Not sure if I can make it by Sunday- Saturday's looking pretty slim- but over the next few days I'm hoping to finish the tender and "link it up" (in other words, add in the coupling on the engine) finally get the bell out of the way and have a basic piston set. Other than the pipes up top and the windows on the cab, I can't think of anything else that needs to be added, though I can think of several things that need tweaking or improvement. greenknightfury
I'd go with the girl's brain in the mainframe too...though that brings images of cowboy robots having teaparties and a robot horse with a rebar "horn" in it's forehead with a recorded message "I'm a pretty unicorn!" playing from them in a few places lol...maybe as Wild Wasteland content...*grins*. True, I'v always thought she spent 95% of her time "dreaming" (actually experiencing the other brains memories being interwoven into her dreams) and most of her up-time being focused on her "big toys" (ie the park). But that doesn't preclude small scale entertainment too like a tea party. Along with the gunslinger protectron's maybe some robotic teddy's. Mr gunslinger (the sunset version of Mr gutsy) with a kettle, plate of cookies and a tray of cups in each hand. Yeah I think we should keep that for non wild wasteland characters as well. It's too bizarrely enchanting to limit it to just the players with the WW perk. Just for kicks though, lets bump up your unicorn idea into a complete bot line. The buttercup unicorn could be just produced after the war (at her bequest, she has plenty of resources in the park), or a specially licensed product produced pre-war by Bill and sort of dedicated to her. But whatever the case, these are shiny production model buttercup unicorns. Like the rest of the park bots, they can be put into a security mode where there eyes glow red and their happy rainbow dialog suddenly becomes very dark (or perhaps they stomp and gore you with cheerful glee and happy little quips about friendship). greenknightfury
Hey Trooper, for the name of the engine how about: (bringing both the company name and cowboy theme in)Sunset Marshall Sunset Bullet Sunset Bronco and of course any of these names implies a line of "Sunset" models commissioned by Bill for the company, of which this is a particular engine. TrooperScooperMKII
Well, engine names seem to be single words eg. the marshall rather than Sunset Marshall although the latter could be a good name for the "train" (like the Super chief, it was the name of the line/train as a whole IIRC) but the engine IMO screams COWBOY PATRIOT like a greek/roman God (hence: Jupiter, Leviathan, General, Texas; things like Comet, Washington, etc.); how about the Patriot? Not very original, but then, Bill isn't the brightest bulb, is he? Or we could go with a sentimental "boyhood memories" approach, or named after his pet dog or youngest son etc.Dang, I did nothing today (regarding the engine) so... speaking of names, what are the characters we have by name? There's Bill- is that his "real" name? I can see him changing it, e.g. he was born an ethnic mexican/latin in Texas, grew up "proud to be an american" and changed his name to a "stage name" i.e. he's actually, legally, Bronco BIll or something, with a certificate for the name change (is that how it works?) hanging proudly in his office, framed in Red white and blue. Did we settle on the Chosen's/tribal girl's name yet? How many children do we want? There's the daughter/MF and the disgruntled son & heir posse bot (probably the oldest, maybe mid-twenties, post-military/college and "ready" to apprentice under a big-time CEO) but I'd guess maybe one or two more, perhaps a younger brother died in Anchorage or something, and that's one of the reasons Bill is/was shaken up about his "plan" for his children, and/or a bone of contention inside his family? Actually, perhaps that could have led to an argument/divorce with his wife; she'd end up dead during the apocalypse, his daughter somewhat by chance being on her way to a visit (joint custody and all that) maybe he embarked on a suicidal rescue op. Or the entire family was "in the way" somehow, like on a train/plane going home or on a business trip.He/his whole family had a big apocalypse log journey to the park vault (see honey? I told you it would be useful), all three (four, if we include his son) getting lethal rad dosage, killing the mother before arrival and leading to the transplants of the other three. His daughter could be more critical/"important" so she gets the first ER splice into the MF, then Bill, wracked with guilt over everything lets his son take a "prepared" android (or just a better bot) body, or at least transfer first. He could get some brain damage during his own transfer, or was the most scarred b/c of being "human" longest. This could explain why his son might "forgive" him or at least refrain from killing him, assuming bill's a pawn of the MF and the son is still himself and reasonably free to act.
