JefferyKoslov
Hello. So, last night I had finally decided to shut off my computer, rather than telling it to sleep like I usually do. I had been half-way through the Soul Cairn, and in the morning when I went to load up said save, it had loaded just fine but it crashed each and every time I tried to save. It irritated the hell out of me. I loaded the save previous to that one and it let me save the game from then on out. However, each time I saved, little did I know that I had just crossed a boundary in which something corrupted my game. (I shut off my computer because my anti-virus and anti-malware programs needed to restart my computer in order to finish updating. Before I shut off my computer, it let me save it just fine. Now it mysteriously crashes every damned time I try to save, whether it be a hard-save, quick-save, or auto-save. I have already created at least five other playthroughs in which I gave up any hope of fixing the problem and just decided to create yet another new game. This time I refuse to create a new game. One way or another I will get this problem fixed. No, my mods didn't seem to be an issue beforehand. All of my mods played properly and worked just fine. As for my mod list, itself: (Total of 133, these are just my active mods.) 【Skeleton】XP32 Maximum Skeleton ExtendedA Quality World Map and Solstheim Map - With RoadsAlternate Start - Live Another Life - CaptainPatch
Just to be certain: The game _does_ start without any CTDs? That many mods, I believe it's safe to say you use the Nexus Mod Manager. The checkboxes on the Plugins tab can be a very useful tool. Given that you get crashes at the exact same place, try this: Ignore the check boxes for the Skyrim, Update, and the DLC .esm files. Uncheck about 1/3 of the remaining boxes and start the game. (You will get a message that says that the Save you are trying to Load relied on mods no longer present. Ignore that message for now. See if the game CTDs. Yes/No, note the mods you had unchecked. Exit the game without Saving. Recheck all of those boxes and uncheck the next 1/3. Repeat the procedure. Then again for the last 1/3. If you are lucky the problem will persist with only one group of mod files. In which case it's just a matter of narrowing down just which one (if you are lucky) is causing you problems. Then just leave that one unchecked and go back to playing the game. Unfortunately, with 133 mods installed, there's a large probability that there are several mods causing you grief. A friend of mine over Steam mentioned that mods tend to have the ability to not show any problems until you're in late-game as he's learned the hard way with a 400+ hour character in Skyrim. So, I must say that sucks. I hope that it's fixable, because I do not intend to lose even more saves like this constantly. And yes, the game starts up and loads everything just fine, but whenever I try to save? Forget about it, I can't even leave my house without a crash. Hallinskioi
Do you use LOOT? Which is the most recent mod installed? Could that be giving you problems?
jones177
Hi As saves get older they require more resources. They also grow in size.I have over 250+ mods. My first save is about 8mb. my last save on a character is about 30mb.The size & stability also depends on how many DLCs you do.I use Skyrim as a fantasy simulator so I rarely advance the main quest past getting Breezehome. These saves stay stable(few CTDs) all the way through their life. The saves that go through Dragonborn are less stable. The ones that go through Dawngard are not stable at all. Besides keeping a good load order you need to use a few utilities. You need to use SKSE with Sheson's memory patch. My game won't even run for 10 minutes without it.You need to use Skyrim Performance Monitor to see if you are running out of resources. You may need to switch off your anti-virus and anti-malware programs while you play. You may need to switch off some processes in windows. Google it. Updates can mess with your game. I have all auto updates switched off. This year alone Windows updates have stopped my mouse from working twice. I had to use restore. A video driver update allowed Skyrim freezes to take out my computer. I had to unplug then re-plug in my computer to get it going again. Good luck with your game.
