Mod Idea: Mini Map

Hello,

One of the things that annoyed me the most about playing fallout is the inconvenient way of knowing where things were on the map with out having to open my pip-boy and manually checking it until I found where I was supposed to go, or made sure I explored everything.

I was wondering if it is possible to make a mini-map mod for Fallout New Vegas, or if such mod exists. I was thinking similar to the local map or maybe running off the local map somehow, and it auto updates your map, a la Diablo or something similar, in the corner or something.

Thanks.

its most likely possible to set one up with your own personal marker. Just moving the "local" map to the main HUD view rather than the pip boy. I doubt that you could get enemies to show up on there though... so if it replaces the compass, that would be a big loss.

But maybe its possible. way beyond my skill though...

hmm, that is true. Honestly, I use a clean ammo only UI , compass disabled. But yeah I could see that as a loss. I would just love to see that idea looked into a bit. Maybe mess around with it, I have no modding experience, so I can't really fiddle with it myself sadly...

if such mod exists

I looked under UIO, since chances are good if a mod like that exists it would be compatible with UIO (if it wasn't it would mean it was incompatible with other xml mods) and didnd't see anything that fits the bill.

so like a mini map in the corner or something similar, that is running as part of your normal gameplay hud? You could certainly make elements of a map and display them on screen in a little overlay. I'm not sure how one would go about transferring the map information to the overlay though. I looked and didn't see anything obvious as far as functions, but there are two interesting NVSE functions;

SetOutputLocalMapPicturesGrids & OutputLocalMapPicturesOverride

But I couldn't find any documentation on them.

I think to do something like this (or to even tell if it's feasible/possible) your going to need some input from someone very familiar with xml and it's supporting scripting, maybe someone like jazzisparis or luthienanarion can weigh in on the topic.

Yeah, that is basically the idea, part of the HUD. I'll see if it is possible to catch their attention. Any help would be appreciated.
