Triangles and other errors

Over the past few days I've been having trouble with new vegas, and I've installed, uninstalled, then reinstalled it and my mods multiple times but cannot find a solution. Most recently, the game starts fine, but a few minutes after I leave doc mitchells pressing escape does not bring up the menu, icons for weapons are missing with large blue squares in place of their pip boy icons, and red triangles appear everywhere, but usually from particle effects. I am using NVSE and the fallout 4gb patch to run the game. I ran my mods thru fnvedit and found no missing esm files. My load order sorted by loot is:

I would really appreciate any help or advice. I want to give new vegas one last playthrough before f4 releases, but I'm getting so frustrated with these mod issues that I want to just stop trying.

Get rid of enough plugins to reduce the total count to 139 or less. It doesn't matter what you get rid of.

Ok, thanks. Any reason why over 139 makes the game unstable?

It's an engine bug that was introduced in one of the game patches. There is no way to fix it.
