My error I wasn't reading what you wrote correctly. There's just a lot of info to take in an assimilate while trying to keep up with you. I do appreciate all the time you are devoting to me and I really do want to get FO3 up and running correctly and really need your help. I'll be more careful before responding from now on.

the training thing as in all games is the start of any game.

Vault 101 set's up your character , each step of the scripts cancel out out going back.

that the trainer part of FO3 , once this is complete, your in a new world space.

mods make the difference.

the application is named so Steam users here can use the update on the retail versions of thegeck, and it follows thrue to retail versioning controls for any mods they may make or edit.

what this does is like making patches for say a DLC...you want to patch a mod that uses a dlc as a master file.

The patch has in it's header data that point too that master file thus allowing that patch to work with the master's data with out flaws.

This steam item is labeled for code based on a steams *.dll and i a valid engine steam will NOT delete / replace.

Bethesda patch for retail Will recognize this Engine as Original for both games For that updating software with the geck.

in order to comply with retail editing and graphics standards in retail.......for the steam user base, the geck needs to be read as retail and so does the Engines...when it's all done, fallout3.esm will have been edited by the 1.7 patch...in doing so, It to as a patch should require a qualifying master file so it can work.

your not downloading a steam product.....your downloading a patch for a steam products to be converted to retail.

you own retail...but are running a game on a system not meant for the game and it's 64 bit too.

This is not steam...it's retail version controls built into a lot of effort to make.

The .....Benefits are this....Increased graphics display compatibility for steams overlay IF you own steam and for normal retail versions of the game on windows XP, Vista....and there where things stop because windows 7 did not exist then.

what works is why your being told to do things a certain way...questioning things ? well you can...but hey you want the game to run right or not?

your on windows 10 64 bit and operating system just born, your conversing with a tech an insider for windows 10. also a modding expert for a girl I do alright.

error codes are what i watch for, we submit reports about what does what when this does this and that.

games....we tackle them too...we find what works and what does not work.

My own disc's are full retail. there are two discs here...the image sent shows disc one only, securRom is in the games launcher from the second disc and it will not work on windows. It will get deleted as it is Obsolete.

The preEmpted strike against that DRM is why I posted all of this...so you are protected from garbage. and we still have no idea what will happen here?

hun, I have no idea what will take place in windows 10 Full blown public release ,I threw my copy of that in the trash can because it does not work, it wanted to upload all my personal data. no, not happening. This is 7 and locked down.

this is starting to bore me too.

here is what you need to see, go there and get what you need, this show 2 versions...version do matter all versions are devided for a reason.

intermingling things is what I do.

I can't give you a direct link there due to Adult content Gates..you need to log in there.

http://s26.postimg.org/iug34g1s9/patch_pages.jpg

click on the GECK icon to the right for all of it's data too. you will need it.

if you do not listen and install the game and update it...later decide to install the geck, oh yeah it will install, it just won't allow you to update it.

your gonna be left with junk.

or you could end up with something like this: http://s26.postimg.org/xocnosm4p/Storms_Clearing.jpg

decide quickly.

Thanks, I did finally understand what you were saying and followed you direction. I did load a saved game from right before I exited the vault and loaded it, then exited and saved. Ran in the Steam fake file and started FO3 waited 3 minutes and saved exited. Loaded the 1.7 patch and made sure the GECK was loaded and updated and worked.

Now at this point I figure I can load in the DLC I had zipped what about the three xlive files do I need to put them back in FO3 root?

Now you choose to use a mod manager, one that will give you access to a lot of stuff.

Fomm 19 is ok, but it can be ran from inside Mo 18...38 cramps what we need access too.

also, Editing tools will be picked up by both tools used in this manner.

IF you want later on to invest time into Fose..just remember once that is introduced into the game, there is no turning back.

from that point on, your saved games will require it.

The differences here.

  1. Fomm will install and overwrite data into the main games Data folder, something that is normal but does not need to be.
  2. Mo can use Fomm as the installer...hows that grab ya? yeah, it will put mods into the Overwrite folder where you have more control.
  3. IF the latter is choosen, you need to know about creating mods from the overwrite folder, you can use the Origianl name.
  4. Keep thing clean and neet, TheDLC zip can be installed Either way by Either programs...one puts it in one folder, the other in another.
  5. Both are the cat's meow.
  6. Fomm will pick up on xedit if installed correctly, so does Mo, but you need to enter it's information by hand.
  7. same goes for Java applications. In mo only.
  8. Fomm and Mo both can access the system graphics controls as well as the games launcher so there are 3 game related and two system related.

The xlive controls are used for mods...they can be placed into that main games folder if required....you will get a notice from the game when a mod made with xlive is installed, Just like a Fose made mod, so is xlive..it's sounds stupid but it happens.

but in win 10? this I have to see.

xlive is required for updates

when a user asks for a saved game, and your running fose, you your self need to disable fose before uploading any saved game.

Reasons:

  1. retail games or Vanilla mod setups need to have valid information stored to test and validate, can't be done with fose.
  2. Fose validation requires it on both machines...there are versions of it and some versions do not work with some mods.
  3. testing requires what came off of that machine's DVD disc. Fose is not included.
  4. Cleaned mods? don't bother a tech with that because it won't even come close to Vanilla data.
  5. disabling fose is as easy as running the game directly from it's executable. It's just that simple. No Fose means it will load on any machine.
  6. Fose control Eliminates any valid testing. There are users/ modders that run Explicitly FOSE games and use it to mod with. That's who you ask for mods or Fose made saved games.
  7. This is a time saver post. It will resolve misunderstanding first if read and understood.
  8. A 1.7 version saved game will not run on a (1.0.0.12) version game "Retail" so it's important to know that.
  9. common mistakes are what we just went thru, that's a ton of information. as you can see, the game will run fine. Ouch !
  10. Just remember, I have recall...but can forget too. paradoxie....sounds like a movie I watched?
  11. the data that once was Encroaching on that system was secuROM...it may still be there but is inactive. No matter, it does have it's uses.
  12. xlive is there, provided VIA here...so you have the data should you forget how you got it. This bypasses the SecurRom problems.
  13. the menu item...I have small zip to remove that nag from the startup menu if you want it, don't worry, it's not running. That is an xml nag.

On last thing here , I can upload a screen shot if required of this games case.

The Logo in the upper left hand corner is an eye sore. That logo is also what's sitting in that program manger on your OS.

The fight...what we fight...is The fight for PC independence.

on the rear of this case is a real kick in the teeth.

every post known by so called experts here ,that label kicks Them where it counts.

2008 bast ( also known as Bast, the deity and leader of a beast cult in the Forgotten Realms fictional universe)

game of the year all the pertinent data that points to what was is clearly written out there. For clarity purposes here.

17+ mature audiences.

Mature ? who's that? wait, this game is about killing things. so ...

Made for VIsta/XP...notice the line of arrangement's? sort of reversed too. Vista came after the game was even produced....2009.

so I read more, dive in to things i have no business looking into. it's all history now.

Processor supported (2.4 Ghz )

Ram....(1 gig hard ram ) + ( 6 gig's free hard drive space ) on windows....Vista or XP...means swap file ram too... because that's how it works.

NVIDIA G force 6800 OR Ati 850 min.

Designed for "Muticore"... hmm. that fine print is really small

here the kicker... in big bold text read "THE POWER OF CHOICE"

Under that read " Are you Good or Evil? Talk out your problems or just flash your Plasma riffle ? "

ya know........?

there just isn't much here that requires all of this.

Massive gaming rigs, ram up the kazoo !, Vid cards to make movies with brought to their knees by this game.

Ultra fast supper processing SSD drives ! ...and still ...Problems. at the end of this year, this game will be 10 years old....in ten years, it still can't be ran correctly by the masses.

The up an coming game, one which i paid for in advance and even reflected it's payment here VIA discussions about the game....seriously doubt it will be any better than what this game is.

so, I'm off to look into some assets from the publishers about the game I just bought and see if they are using data for Today's pc's...NOT set top boxes.

I know already where it's all going but not the data. OS OEM claims support for the next ten years and then it's dropped. um. that's nothing.

this game is almost ten years now, and still.....

For a game site web post critic my text is comical , If you knew my culture, were more educated in the world affairs, study harder in schools, there would be no criticism.

Fun...ok, well ?

You impress the hell out of me. I'm glad you're here to grace the rest of us clowns with your knowledge and wisdom.

I decided not to use FOSE. I loaded MO 1.12.8 and FOMM 14.11.09 because that was the only we could fine where I could get all three xlive files from. I'm planning on running it in XP compatible mode.

I had a concern because the Saved Game I used to start everything was originally from my last install which did use FOSE. Is this going to be an issue?

Well win10 compatibility mode wanted to set it to run in Vista SP2 so I let it and it seems to be running fine. A little more test (heh, heh playing the game) and I'll know more but I think you fixed it.
