Gonna put together a modders resource for tents and fences. But its gonna have camo netting for the textures.

Heres a sample of some fence work. It still needs a lot of massaging but when its released will be a modder resource.

The normal map there really sint anything to see. You would need the file. But heres what I did. Theres a hoover damn mesh for the fences in the water. I had a camo netting that I downloaded from a good site. Its one of those pay for pic sites, but they give you 15 mb to download. The image I got was like 2mb, so it was very high quality. AND there was no copyright infringement using it. It was a free resource. Important if you ustilize HIGH quality. That alwas makes a HUGE difference. Start off with great looking stuff, cause it alwas goes down from there. Unfortuantly it was a JPG, so it had a background. This was the pain in, anyway I got GIMP, and went to work, probable took about 90 mins to do, but first thing I did was got out nifskope for the texture, FOMM extract the fence texture. Opened that up in GIMP, and I had a 512x512 fence. So my pic I had was like 2048x2048, I just shrank in down to the same demensions. out of a new copy. I never touch originals. Then I had to make it into a PNG file. And made a new copy. I alwas make everal copies as I work.

Once I had the png, with eraser tool, cutting holes in the netting. That was the biggest pain there was. Once I had all that done save. New copy. Copied into the fence dds. Exported as PNG. Re-opened GIMP. sometimes it has difficulty with working with the same file if its DDS format during copy and pastes if sizes change. Once re-opened my size is all 512x512, because the export function works for me like this. It just stips out, where dds doesnt. Then I saved my dds, with compression, and have it generate mipmaps. Once that done, back to gimp normalmapping. Not gonna go through that whole process, but it usually takes me about 45 seconds to make a normal map now. Checked the alpha channel, and lowered so its about 1/2 inch from the bottom. That seeems to work for me. Once I have that save the file_n name dds, put in my directory, and back to nifskope to replace texture. I had some new metal that I had already that Im using so I changed the fence material too. I didnt change the normal map for that part of the fence. Because the only difference is color, so Im still using what the game has built in. saved me 350kb.

Then into geck to create. put in my test room, and looks kewl. Wish I new more about 3d work though, but right now Im getting the hang of changing the look so far. Nifskope has all the info for the holes in the fence, so I didnt need to change anything there, but thats a whole new thing when I creat the tent walls will be playing with nitristrips. Im not there yet though, but I don;t think its gonna be the bangup job for this one.

Anyway Allen if you want the files to look at em, give me a shout pm your email, and send em to ya.

Cheers
