GECK: Give weapon -DT effect or ignoreDT effect

Hi!

I'm having a bit of a problem with a mod I created. I gave the Multiplas Rifle the "DummyNVIgnoreDTDR" effect, the same effect that the Ripper and Thermic Lance uses. However, even though it says that the Multiplas Rifle has that effect in-game, it doesn't actually work.

Any ideas on how to give the Multiplas Rifle a -DT effect or a "ignore DT" effect?

The "dummy" stuff is just that: dummy. It's there so you get the text in the description, but the actual effect is in some other place.

Ignoring DT/DR completely is easy. Just check the "Ignores normal weapon resistances" box up there. It's how the Ripper actually does it. Of course, this can be easily overpowered. Only do it for really low damage weapons and such.

-DT, hmm, not sure how to actually do it in a weapon. It's trivial to do for ammo, though.

Are you sure this is how you do it? I've got "Flags: Ignores normal weapon resistance" checked (same as the Ripper). However, in game the weapon is most certainly not ignoring the enemy DT. Is it maybe because the ammo type (microfusion cell -2 DT) overrides it?

EDIT: I double checked just to be sure and yepp! Attacking an armoured enemy with the Ripper did not display the red shield icon, but attacking it with my modded ranged weapon did display the red shield icon (as well as doing not enough damage).

Hmm, well, if you absolutely have to do damage through armour, I suppose you could always have a damage effect on the weapon, which applies regardless of whether the armour was bypassed or not.

The most trivial example is the burn DOT for flamers or incinerators, or the scripted effect for the pulse gun. It doesn't have to overcome a power armour's DT to do a ton of damage anyway.

You also can apply an effect (read: a script) on criticals. Again, this ignores armour.

So for example you could have a weapon that applies the shishkebab burn effect on hit (-5 dps for 5 seconds) regardless of armour (but not regardless of fire resistance, obviously), and the massive v22 burn effect on a crit.

Oooh, I got it. You can do it with a hidden perk.

You know the Shotgun Surgeon perk? Essentially it says 'ignore 10 points of armour IF the weapon is in the shotguns list.' You can make a similar perk that looks in your own list of plasma weapons, then have a script grant it to the player immediately.
