New Mod With Pre-Order Packs

When creating a new mod I should uncheck all plugins in my Data Files, including the pre-order packs.

However, the pre-order packs also include parts (I think BSA files but I'm not sure) that load bonus items in a new game even when the pack is unchecked in Data Files.

I could not find a definitive answer if it was OK to leave those BSA files in the New Vegas Data folder or if I should physically delete them from there before creating a new mod?

Thanks,

Drake

I'm sorry, are you saying that a pre-order pack, lets say for example the caravan pack, will load items from the CaravanPack - Main.bsa even if CaravanPack.esm is not ticked in FOMM? I don't believe that is the case, at least I havn't experienced anything like that. But If that's actually happening it could have something to do with the NAM files (ie CaravanPack.nam) that would be the only possibility I could think off. However I don't think that's the case I don't have any of my *.nam files (they were a pain having to untick each time I started up geck) and I don't recall having any of the pre-order pack items from before I removed my nam files or after.

Yes that is pretty much it. I have the classic pack with the Vault 13 Armored Suit, Weathered 10mm Pistol, and Trusty Vault 13 Canteen, and I uncheck the classic pack in Data Files; however, when I create a new game or load a game it will still add those items to my game. Was a big surprise to me at first now I just take it for granted.

That is why I wondered if when making a new mod I would be OK with the pre-order pack unchecked, or if I should physically delete all the preorder files from my data directory to ensure the mod would not include anything except the base falloutnv.

Thanks,

Drake

I think Quetzlsacatanango is right on target, another esp has it listed as a master. That makes sense.

But in re: to your main question, I havn't made a lot of mods, but probably have like 9 or 10 and all of mine left the pre-order packs unchecked when I made them. But the pre-order esm were present in my dirctory. So I think it's fine.

Plus it's good to have them there because some mods require them, but the authors don't always inform you of that. Sometimes because they don't even know they are listed as masters (ie they fired up geck and didn't notice one or more was ticked thanks to the sucky nam files, and then made they'r mod).

Aha, that could well be it, maybe another mod had it checked. I haven't spent much time on modding so I do find the data files a bit mysterious in their workings. This mod I'm doing is my first one for NV it's just going to be a small item mod to help me learn some basics, but I'm trying to learn how to do things properly from the start.

Someone else suggested that I create a zip of the clean install Data directory without anything except falloutnv. That would make it easy to start fresh with a clean base whenever I want to, just flip back and forth between my day to day data folder and a clean development/testing data folder.

Thanks all!

Drake
