CoopCoupe
Is there a way I can change a weapon's sound back to its vanilla state?I have NVEC, and though I like most of the sounds in that, I think the Gauss Rifle reload/firing sound effects are gross. It sounds like a weapon that uses gunpowder instead of magnet-based projectiles, and I can't stand it.How would I go about making the sounds back to their vanilla state for this weapon without deleting the entire mod? Side note: even disabling the plugin doesn't change the firing sound. I suspect I need to find the vanilla sound again somewhere.
kylemarshiku
I'm not an expert with messing with mods, so don't quote me on this, but here's a solution that MIGHT work. Keep a backup handy if it doesn't. Odds are the vanilla sound is some of the base game's BSA files. And, it seems NVEC is replacing it with a sound file included in one of its BSA files. What I would suggest when there's an issue with a particular file is to simply delete that file. I've done that with particular sounds I didn't care for added by mods. But the fact that it is a BSA complicates things. You should be able to extract the BSA file into the files it contains using some type of extraction software. (I'd try 7zip.) You could then use those files INSTEAD of the BSA. The "loose files" in the Data folder override the BSA. So now that it is converted, you should be able to remove that one sound file. Unfortunately, finding it might be tough. Look in weapons. My advice. Again, not the best, but it is something.
CoopCoupe
Where can I track down these BSA files?
kylemarshiku
Program Files\Steam\User\Steamapps\Common\Fallout New Vegas\Data That's the usual spot. The Data folder contains the content for Fallout New Vegas. In there you will find all of your files. I advise to only mess with them if you know what you're doing.
