SirTwist
Here's my idea, And possibly an all around mod. The idea is to add a subsonic version of all the ammo in the game, so that they could be better used with sound suppressors for weapons. My thought is this, the subsonic ammo would be a bit lower damage than normal, and less damage than normal. The sound suppressors, as well, need to be changed a little, or a lot, mainly in the sound department. I would say make them just a further reduction of sound, not anything else. There should be some sound, but not that much, depending on caliber. Anyway, these are my thoughts on an addition to great mods.
Moraelin
Technically in the game that's how it works. As far as detection is concerned, every attack always makes a sound, but some are much louder than others. A suppressor might move you from "LOUD" to "NORMAL" levels, or for certain weapons all the way down to "SILENT", but you still make a noise and can be detected up close. The actual sound you hear, well, that's another thing, and AFAIK mods do exist that change suppressed sounds to actual recorded ones. Subsonic doesn't matter all that much in NV, except for where you hear the sound. TECHNICALLY most bullets are WAY subsonic in the game. The projectile speeds can be as low as 500 fps or so, or IIRC all the way down to 300 fps for buckshot, if you do the maths. Ammo mods tend to actually set the bullet speeds UP to some believable levels. Making them MORE subsonic, so to speak, isn't really a big necessity. What projectiles do have is their own sound level, mostly used when they hit something. E.g., you hit a corrugated metal hut near those raiders, they're gonna start showing an interest. Most are set to "Normal" loudness. Well, that said, if you want some plausibly subsonic bullets, you could try my Hellsing Special Ammo mod. All bullets there are set to be low noise and about 1000 fps in speed. The ammo is however pretty powerful (about 1.5 times normal damage, nothing god mode) and might ruin the challenge for you. Unless, I guess, you set the IWS spawns way high or similar ways to get the challenge back up. It's easy to nerf it in the GECK by just removing that modifier, though. SirTwist
Moraelin, thank you for your response. I forgot I was dealing with mostly weapons who aren't normally silent, or even sound suppressed. There is typically a report from the weapon to let you know you have fired. With subsonic ammo, it projects the bullet at a less than supersonic speed. That said, maybe I should change things around, if both the authors of Weapons of the New Millennia and CalibrX can work together, maybe put together a few weapons and ammo that are from the start, really sound suppressed.
