Ruadhan2300
I don't recall seeing a page like this before, so perhaps this'd be a useful reference for anyone who wants to build a player home that people will actually download... I look for a number of things in a player home.. - I need storage, that's the big one. I absolutely must have somewhere to store some ridiculous number of tons of armor, weapons, ammunition and junk that I collect - my biggest gripe with a lot of player homes, particularly vaults, is the distance from the cell entrance to the storage areas. essentially, when I build my own player homes, I walk from entrance to storage and time it. if its more than a minute, I need to reduce the journey. my scenario is showing up (having used buffout or something to temporarily boost my strength) at the fast-travel point, then having to walk through the home to the storerooms to dump the stuff. it gets old very fast if it involves passing through about half the home :P - somewhere to sleep, ideally the player's owned bed. so that they get the Well Rested perk, but its not important. - somewhere to heal up, I put a med-bay in my private vault which could effectively renew every aspect of the character, as well as providing facial/hair reconstruction functionality. its a little OP but given how rarely I return to the vault anyway, I figured it was good to be able to reset my character's stats almost completely every time I did. I imagine the character spending maybe a week or so resting up and preparing for the next quest. so it makes sense. - The Player home absolutely must not be in or near an existing town. especially not Goodsprings or Megaton (depending on the game)in fact, as of writing this, it takes several pages on the nexus search engine searching for "Vault" to find anything that isn't in goodsprings....ignoring my own vault, which is the first entry...just saying. it annoys me at the lack of imagination for placement. - I like the arrangements to make sense, the workshop is near the firing range and the storerooms, the kitchen is near the common room, the living quarters near there too...etc - I like the place to have a little style to it, my vault has fishtanks and similar to provide a little ambience to the place. my character is a stylish Merc for hire. she has literally hundreds of thousands of (non cheating) caps at her disposal. she is -not- going to live in a shack on a hilltop. - I enjoy gimmicks. teleporters, ammunition presses, vending machines, robot butlers, mannequins, central AI for the home, whatever. its all cool. the house is a place to keep stuff and recuperate the character before heading out again, but it still should be a fun place to hang out.
