kevkiev
The more I play FO3 I'm, naturally, less likely to have those "wow" kinda moments. But I had one of those uber-cool experiences fairly recently. I've only just recently packed my game with mods and I'd been playing a lot with the Sydney Follower and Lucy West Companion. But I was missing the lone wolf thing a bit, so decided to go out on a solo recon mission. It was right after I'd loaded the "darker nights" mod and Marts Mutant mod, and I went out rather light - only 1 rifle (albeit a totally modded Xuonlong) and a whack of grenades and mines. I intentionally didn't read the MMM description about all the creatures I was going to face, as that was kinda the point of the recon mission. The plan was to fast travel to the Republic of Dave then zig down to the SW then zag back SE to Megaton. I left Daves just when it got dark. I console-commanded the time ratio down to 10 so I knew it was going to be a long night. Well.... holy hannah, what a ride. I was barely out of Dave's when I saw the shadowy outlines of what first appeared to be some kind of Mirelurk-type thing, but they had even bigger than mirelurk type heads and these BIG pointy teeth. In the darkenss, they looked like great white shark heads with legs. Yikes. (I have Mr Slackpants nightvision mod - I try to use sparingly and save energy cells, and you don't get really bright vision in darker nights as it is. Perfect, actually.) Soon enough, I came across some eerie green campfire with a bunch of dancing zombies. Er wait, they're not dancing..... they're fighting with some massive and grotesque beast that kinda looked like a mutie but something was kinda off. Whatever it was, it was creamg the ghoulies. Especially given that it had probably taken some ghoul-damage I went out of recon mode and blasted the dam thing and discovered it was an "Abominable" mutant. Great, just great. Really lookin' forward to meetin' one at full health. :P Wasn't long before I was tracking a mutie (armored, no less) that I could swear was working with the Enclave. WTF?! Later I had the stupidity to go up against some bad assed RED deathclaw (it was light by that time, the mission had kinda gone off timetable). Apparently, at least according to VATS shortly before my death, it's called a "Matriarch". Great, REALLY lookin' forward to more of those! (Thank you F5/F9!) Anyways, by the time I got back to Megaton I was totally stoked by that adventure. One "what the hell is that now?!" moment after another. It was like the closest I've come for awhile to that initial FO3 buzz I got on my first playthrough. Scariness, excitement and mega-fun!! zombierelic
Hehe. Yeah matriarchs and enforcers (the mutie working with the enclave) are nightmares on the hardest difficulty level they make normal behemoths look puny and its truly horrific to fight both at once. I was using MMM, 19/20th century weapon, enclave commander, fellout and a few other lesser mods while playing at the hardest difficulty level in what would be a true horror not long ago at level 27. I had two enclave squads with me armed with Tesla armor and a rocket launcher, two plasma rifles, a ripper, and two mini guns myself using a M249 SAW (around 200 dmg with 120 round mags, I has about 5k ammo) with a companion using a assault rifle from 19/20 century (around 100 dmg 30 round mag). I'd assumed I had well over enough fire power to retrieve the medic armor in the old olny. I entered by way of vault 82 (i think that's the vault I always get them mixed up) at about 3pm (game time) reaching the outer area and deploying twenty frag mines in the event I needed to retreat, I waited about three minutes for the patrolling DC (all were matriarch at this level) when I spotted a DC rounding the corner thinking I'd gotten the jump on it I open fired, it was hit in rapid succession by around 40 rounds from me with a frag grenade, rocket, assorted fire from mini guns and plasma while the ripper charged we felled it in moments, thinking I'd made quick work of it I began to reload as two more rounded the corner felling the enclave ripper in moments charging the rest of us as I finish reloading and frantically open fired at there legs crippling one the other fell on one of the enclave with a plasma rifle as it was finished off by a rocket along with the enclave it was attacking being killed by "friendly fire", with the main threat dead we open fired on the crippled DC killing it. I was a bit surprised at how bad this was going but began moving towards the objective, a drain pipe with the dead raiders surrounding it. We had just rounded the last corner with the drain pipe and were within meters as a lone DC (the only lone DC I'll see) charged out of what seemed no where (looking back it was probably a patrolling one coming from behind), it ripped in to the remaining enclave using a plasma rifle doing a fair bit of dmg and throwing him back i turned around loosing 80 rounds (only about 20 hit) killing it, I decide I'd rather not have any nasty surprise's so I command the plasma rifle and rocket launcher (would have been a danger in the tunnels anyways) to guard the area, while I took the two with mini guns and my companion with me in to the tunnels having been here a few times before I knew there was one coming around a corner with another stuck behind a door to my back I waited two minutes seeing no DC, I decide to kill the one behind me before one of my stupid companions opened the door letting it loose (that's happened to me a few times), I turn to the door opening it readying my stims for when it throws me back as i open the door it swiftly attacked me throwing me right back in to the DC I was waiting for before I turn around unloading all 120 rounds of my SAW in to it bringing it down to 10-20% health luckily the normally annoying companion suicide charge saves my life by distracting the DC and further dmging it to 5% hp and giving me time to reload and kill it turning around in time to see my last enclave fall, I open fire killing it and I decide it would be best to retreat for now climbing out of the sewer it was now pitch black and i was bewildered to see the two enclave I'd left behind dead with another DC dead between them not wanting to stick around to meet which ever DC was surely near by, I hastily retreat rounding the last corner before the entrance, I spotted the wounded DC at about 80% health sadly there was another with full health as well, I begin firing at there legs hoping to cripple them while running to the entrance I brought the wounded one down to 40% and crippled it and the other down to 90% I try to reload to my horror, I look at my ammo count noticing I'd some how burned all 5k of my ammo (it really surprised me how much ammo I'd used admittedly I wasted about 1k of it firing at shadows lol), I switched to my side weapon a SL8 heckler&koch auto (100ish dmg 30 round mag) firing at the healthier DC, I finally reached the mine field which killed the stronger one and left the other at 10% hp which I finished off grabbed my remaining few mine's and fast traveled back to megaton to save and plan another attempt later. It was both amazingly fun and scary probably the most fun I've had with fallout since my first play through I'd highly recommended the mods I named they add some real repeatably and challenge to the game. Blivion1
Well thanks for the stories I will Post one...Its written in a RP style kind of way but its still based on what happened in the game Started the day stopping by the lantern for some eats before i headed out again in search of medical supplies. It had been awhile since i had used my last hit of morphine and i had the craving the doc was out and the caravan wasn't due for a few days, Dam Leo given up his habit, now i had to head out into the wastes. I left town and headed towards the mart I had decided earlier it was best to take the roundabout way packing only my glock and M14 hunting rifle with this much ammo, I would just get myself killed in a fight, taking the high ground beside the mart let me scout the raiders positions out front, watching them for an few i decided to hit the store at night knowing the guards out front would be the worse to fight out in the open, so I headed out south looking for my fix I slowly made my way down to the talon company building and and keep up my search... After a while i came across a sewer entrance i decided to peek in to see if any unlucky wastelanders or scavengers had set up camp, I stepped on in seeing a few bodies strewn around and decided it was worth the risk for my fix to check this place out. Well after patting down the third body and finding nothing but a few caps and a grenade, i spotted a first aid kit up a ways and nearly broke out in a run for it. To my luck it was locked, I stood their cussing it for all its worth knowing my fix was just inside i decided since i had not brought any pins with me i would have to try to blow it open with that grenade i found. So, after a few minutes of getting it all set i pulled the pin and backed far enough away and waited, holding my breath, i waited, and waited. Stupid junk should have went off by now. I gave it a little while and moved a little closer, then held my breath a little longer and moved a little closer, reaching my hand out to pick it up. fingers inches from it, the grenade detonated. Shrapnel embedded into my arms and face. Screaming in agony i felt around in my pack for a Stimpack, and injected myself the pain slowly dissipated and my breathing normalized. I checked my body for for other injuries, and figured they weren't life threatening. As i went to turn around i heard it from deeper in sewers, that growl, that haunting growl of death, I backed up slowly pulling out my pistol, and waited listening for the tall tale signs that I was doomed , slowly it grew louder, and louder bare feet slapping cement. The ghouls knew i was here and that i was alive. I did a three sixty check and discovered they were coming from both directions. I had one option charge them and try to make it to the exit. I turned to face the way I came and saw the first few stop to growl at me, I fired out three rounds striking two of them but killing none. I set my feet as they began to run at me again, I knew it would have to be timed right... Three feet from me i exploded in a charge tackling the center ghoul knocking him down quickly gaining my momentum i slammed the one one the left to the ground and fired off a shot at the last one, running flat out towards the door, knowing within a few seconds the ghouls would be back on their feet and the others would catch up with them. I had not realized how far my search had taken me into the sewers,, within a few seconds i heard the ghouls hot on my tail at least seven of them now, i rounded what i thought was the last corner before the exit and realized my mistake. it was a dead end, there was a door to the right i quickly checked it, all it lead me to was an empty storage room. i was pretty much screwed, I turned around and waited gun ready if they were gonna kill me i was gonna give them a fight, I channeled all my stamina and focused on the corner watching as the milliseconds ticked by and death approached the first ghoul peaked the corner and i squeezed off two round bringing him down, his buddies didn't take to kindly to that and stopped to growl their disapproval, giving me time to bring their numbers down to four, they sped there way towards me running flat out, firing off three more rounds stopped the first one, I slammed another clip in and took aim, they were twenty yards away when when i knock another one out of the fight with a bullet to his leg, Two left I quickly dash into the storage room and waited as the came around the corner I finished one the other took a swipe at me before i could get my gun on him. Pain seared through my arm, my gun clattered to the ground his swipe had broken my already injured arm. taking care no to further injury the arm i quickly set it up in a medical brace, picked up my gun i checked my mag it was empty, that was my last ammo for that i had one clip in the rifle that was it, As i headed out of the storage room i saw a miracle lying in the corner a hit of morphine, I thought to my self as i quickly injected it in my arm that i need to quit this stuff. feeling better i made my way back to the exit. As i went to pass by a ghouls body it moved dragging itself across the floor at me. I quickly pulled the rifle off my back and squeezed off a round into his head silencing him for life. I made my way to the exit checking containers I passed for some good loot to trade Moria for enough caps to fix this stupid arm, it was gonna cost a fortune. I pushed the grate open and clambered out into the sunlight, The sudden brightness slammed itself into my eyes forcing me to blink away the pain. As my vision cleared the scene hit me i was staring down the barrel of a shotgun and on the other end was one of those freaking rent a cop wannabe regulators and this buddies. He spit some bull about justice as i went for my rifle before it cleared my back i saw it all happen in slow motion the other two regulators each pulled their gun as their leader pulled his trigger sending thirteen pellets of twelve gauge shotgun ammo right into my face. The last thing i remember is it going dark. Well their you go a day in the life off a Lone Wanderer
