jtrory
Hi all, I'm about half way through a playthrough of FO3 with a whole bunch of mods installed for the first time. The game runs fine.... mostly. I get crashes probably once an hour on average, typically when I'm entering or exiting an area but sometimes completely at random. Amongst my many mods are the stutter remover, unofficial patch, better game performance mod, and I have the mutli-core fix entered into Fallout.ini but I still get a lot of crashing. Recently I had to use the console to skip an entire main quest (Water For Life) because my game would crash when entering the sub-basement of Jefferson Memorial and I couldn't fix it. I also had very bad crashing when passing back through the Statesman Hotel. In both cases I had visited those locations before the quest and had no crashing, which is weird. It worries me this will happen again. As well as graphics mods I have a lot of .esp files that I have installed using NMM for the most part, and have used LOOT to sort the load order automatically. I haven't done anything beyond that. I noticed that LOOT in it's report says that about 1/4 of the mods should be cleaned using FO3Edit, a program I'm aware of but have yet to fully understand. Here is my current load order: Fallout3.esm=1Anchorage.esm=1ThePitt.esm=1StreetLights.esm=1BrokenSteel.esm=1PointLookout.esm=1Zeta.esm=1Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch.esm=1DCInteriors_ComboEdition.esm=1Mart's Mutant Mod.esm=1EVE.esm=1Mart's Mutant Mod - DLC Anchorage.esp=1Realistic Interior Lighting - OA.esp=1Mart's Mutant Mod - DLC The Pitt.esp=1PCB.esp=1dD - Enhanced Blood Main.esp=1BetterGamePerformance.esp=1DarNifiedUIF3.esp=1Mart's Mutant Mod - DLC Point Lookout.esp=1F3ProjectRealityMkI.esp=1Flora Overhaul.esp=1GNR Enhanced.esp=1BlackWolf Backpack.esp=1BlackWolf Backpack - Vendor Script Replenish.esp=1Mart's Mutant Mod.esp=1Mart's Mutant Mod - Master Menu Module.esp=1Mart's Mutant Mod - DLC Broken Steel.esp=1Mart's Mutant Mod - Natural Selection.esp=1Mart's Mutant Mod - Zones Respawn.esp=1Mart's Mutant Mod - DLC Zeta.esp=1FO3_MERGED.esp=0Mart's Mutant Mod - Tougher Traders.esp=1BlackWolf Backpack - Blank's Container Patch.esp=1Omegared99-ENB Transparency Fix.esp=1Sprint Mod.esp=1URWLENB-002-Interiors.esp=1HZSmoothLight - FO3.esp=1Realistic Interior Lighting.esp=1LeatherBackpack - eng.esp=1LeatherBackpack - rus.esp=1Realistic Interior Lighting - BS.esp=1Realistic Interior Lighting - PL.esp=1 Could it be that this is my problem? I have done hours of research and still can't quite get my head around what to look for in a good load order, just that they are important. And while I understand what a load order does, and why cleaning it up with FO3Edit would be useful, I don't understand how to actually do it. Anyway help would be appreciated, as I'm enjoying the modded game and the modding experience in general but I've obviously got myself to a point where I need some assistance. jtrory
bgp mod. do you know off hand just how many records that has deleted from the game world?move it to the bottom or remove it. every mod bellow it needs the data it removes...how is that game even running? LOL, well there you go. Had no idea. It's been removed. Hard to say yet if it'll help with all the crashing.... Does the fact that the game was using it now mean it's done permanent damage to the game or will uninstalling it allow the other mods to load data correctly now? Incidentally for anyone interested, I'd forgotten about this but this sometimes happens in the corridors usually of the various memorial buildings around D.C. Doesn't cause crashing but looks crazy and I've never been able to figure out what's causing it. Not related to the BGP mod, or at least uninstalling it didn't fix it: http://i.imgur.com/KbkNa8M.jpg
Purr4me
yeah, left over code trapped in the saved game file.Destruction mod mixed with another will do that too.If archive invalidated is toggled off and back on again, after removal of data, it may cure this problem....but that is from BGP.From the moment of the post I downloaded and inspected it ,just so you know, the xedit program is still running thru all of the data on that one mod here, non-stop.finished.Undeleted Records: 29115[Apply Script done] Processed Records: 31809, Elapsed Time: 56:20[00:00] Saving: BetterGamePerformance.esp.save.2015_08_14_16_49_58[00:03] Done saving. your going to experience what every one does. Purr4me
File won't even work now, (Set enable opposite To Parent) on every record pretty much nullifies the games world spaces but good.some things never change. I got one that does not do that to files, so much for scripts.

Okay, so you're saying other than maybe resetting archive invalidation there's nothing I could do besides start a new game without bgp installed? Bummer. Do you see anything else wrong with the load order or the mods I have installed? I have to say that I'm disappointed there wasn't more documentation on the adverse affects of bgp, although I also understand that modding a game from 2008 means that a lot of what has been written about modding it is probably obsolete by now. I might just have to put up with the random crashing then, so long as I don't get another quest-breaking crash like I did in Jefferson Memorial that forced me to skip the whole thing. I don't really want to start over.
Purr4me
what your asking is ...Is there any other way?uh, no. this is part of modding, every one has choices , every one has their own ideas as to how to change things, we do love to change things. sound a bit like a movie...but true. sort order won't really matter with current data your running..it's too late.BUT !...if the saved game is uploaded, I can only try and purge it for you?Understand...I will not be loading all of that data you have, I'll be loading only default files and hard save it, but you need to run the game from It's own fallout3.exe not fose, no loaders. hard save as is there and send that, I can only try. my system won't have what you have there so the data wont be here to infect it.I believe you installed all of that into a single location...The Data folder of the game, I don't do that here, there are no Live Full bsa's here, all files are set to loose format, My bsa archives are Empty. so no fose, upload to 2shared.com, and I'll see what can be done. jtrory
mmm ? did you choose internal menu control or external esp methods? Internal, I can configure through a menu in my Pipboy. If MMM is causing any issues I'm fine with deleting it. I'm trying to upload a save game file to 2share but I still haven't got the required verification email from them as a new signup. It's been an hour now and I have requested several emails. Nothing in spam folder. I'll upload as soon as I can. I loaded up the game with Fallout3.exe and saved it.
