Mod Manager Installation Issues

Recommended Posts

I am trying to install the newest version of the mod manager and I have a very annoying problem. It tells me to select the folder where my witcher 3 application is installed and everytime I select the folder where I know the application is it states "the folder you have selected does not contain the correct game files to support this software." I am so frustrated, can anyone help?

Do you have the latest patch 1.08.1? That is needed for NMM to update properly. Try to verify/repair file in GoG or verify integrity of game cache in Steam (right click on the game in your library, go to properties and click the local files tab and the button is there). If it's a disk for PC, go to cdprojecktred.com and download updates directly if game doesn't do it automatically. If none of that works, uninstall NMM and reinstall it first. Test it. Then uninstall/reinstall Witcher 3.

I just wanted to add to this because I'm having the same issue. I've validated the games' files thru steam, and uninstalled and re-installed both NMM 0.56.1 and the game, and tried to direct NMM to the game's .exe - which it doesn't notice, for some reason.

Is NMM supposed to lead to the witcher3.exe in The Witcher 3\bin\x64? (Steam installation)

So the NMM doesn't automatically pick up your game using its auto scan, right? If you haven't done so, click the refresh arrow's drop down (top right of NMM between question mark and globe icons) and have it rescan installed games. It should auto-detect the .exe. What OS are you guy's using? If Windows, make sure NMM runs as admin etiher in properties or in NMM settings. Is your Steam Library outside of Programs folder? It reduces conflicts that way. I wish I could be more help, but I have GOG for my Witcher 3 stuff. Could be a bug with NMM update and Steam. IM Blind Judge for direct help, or you could check Reddit and Tom's Hardware forums, too if you don't get better guidance here.

Update: I just realized that I now have two versions of NMM. Make sure you have the right one opening. Go into NMM install folder then Game Modes. Look for a Witcher 3 dll file. I think that might be your problem.

Thanks for all the help friends! However, I had been trying with 1.08 and it wasn't working then. Then I had to reinstall all my mods while I was waiting for replies to this and I kinda broke my game so I uninstalled it and now I'm reinstalling and I'll give an update when I try to work it again tomorrow.

I finally figured out how to get NMM to manually 'detect' The Witcher 3. First, I had to make sure a folder called 'Mods' was in the game's directory

(alongside content, and bin, etc.). When NMM fails to auto-detect, manually direct it to The Witcher 3 directory (for steam, steamapps/common/The Witcher 3 or however you have it). Override whatever alerts NMM throws up, and NMM now installs mods into the mods folder as it's supposed to, and NMM can launch the game.

tl;dr manually select The Witcher 3 game folder in NMM detection and you're done.

Hi, I'm using Windows 7. My problem is that I cannot get mods to work using the Nexus Mod Manager for 'The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt'. It is a genuine copy bought BEFORE release. NMM is giving an error stating that "The game path does not contain the games EXE", or something to that effect. I have however, been able to install the 'E3FX' mod manually and it says that the SweetFx option has "Succeeded" but I don't think it actually works.

My file path is 'C:\Origin Games Folder\Origin Games\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt\bin\x64'. I've manually added a "Mods" folder but to no avail. I have tried ignoring the error and manually adding all folder paths related to the game but to no effect. I have installed many mods manually on various games with no issues. I doubt anything will help at this stage but said I would post here anyway. I just don't understand why games bought from 'Origin' cannot be modded with NMM. So frustrating as I have no issues using mods with games bought from 'Steam'.

It might not seem logical (because it didn't to me) but NMM needs to be pointed manually to the MAIN Witcher 3 Wild Hunt folder not where the exe resides. Do that and NMM will function as it is supposed to.

IE: C:\Origin Games Folder\Origin Games\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt
