Mini Character: Captain Danius - Fort Floodgate, Southern Gate

Captain Danius looked over at the piles of burned corpses that used to be Ashlander warriors. They needed all the help they could get out here, but he wasn't sure about this Khajiit.

"Seems awfully eager for a fight." He thought to himself.

He looked back at the Khajiit. "Come with me up to the watch tower. My commander will want to speak with you. The rest of you men, go back to your posts."

Dar'krinji. Fort Floodgate

Dar hears what the Captain has to say, and offers him a large smile in return, bearing his large teeth. "Lead me to him then, and do you mind if I smoke?" Without waiting for a reply, Dar took a large pouch and pipe from his pants, empties the contents of the pounch into the pipe, and smokes it as he walks.

Adrynn Indarys, Fort Floodgate, Blades Safehouse

Adrynn tossed in his sleep, a small sheen of sweat beginning to form on his ash gray brow as his dream slowly fell into nightmare . . .

His eyes snapped open to find himself standing on a ridge overlooking Bal Isra, his home. Looking around, he saw the battlements surrounded by a massive dark horde. He tried to move, but he was frozen in place, his anger and fear for his men unable to help him break free from whatever that held him. Watching in horror, he saw each of his men fall, one by one, till the horde poured into the manor and slaughtered everyone inside. Huge billows of black smoke poured out of the door and he knew then and there that everyone inside was dead.

"GARILA!!!!" he screamed into the ash cloud that had once been his home, knowing that he would never see her again, all his rage and power draining away to utter hoplessness . . .

On his bunk, he twisted and moaned his wife's name, but no one heard the lament of the Redoran.

Velanya Therys, Fort Buckmoth Interior

Velanya awoke at dawn the next morning. Despite her long trek and the skirmish from the night before, she felt quite refreshed.

After completing her morning hygiene rituals and redoing her hair, she headed up the four flights of stairs to Imsin's quarters. Upon reaching the oaken door, she lifted her gauntleted hand and rapped her knuckles sharply on the wood.

"Enter," Imsin's voice commanded.

The Dunmer opened the door and entered the Captain's quarters. Imsin the Dreamer, Commander of Fort Buckmoth, sat at a huge mahogany desk. She was half clad in her golden knight's armor, wearing only the cuirass, pauldrons, and boots. From under these armor pieces flowed and ankle-length, bell-sleeved, cream dress. Her flaxen hair was done up in an elaborate twist, and her ice-blue eyes met Velanya's with a Nord's fearless gaze. She stood as the Dark Elf approached.

Velanya saluted, and her commander answered the gesture with her own, "Report on your trip to Ebonheart, Therys."

"Yes, Commander. Duke Vedam Dren wished me to look into a series of thefts from the East Empire Company's ships. My investigation revealed a ring of smugglers operating out of Vivec's Foreign Quarter Underworks. I was able to locate and eliminate each smuggler...they all resisted arrest. On the way back here, I stopped by Forts Pelagiad and Moonmoth, neither of which had anything of note to report.

"I was, however, attacked by a band of Ashlanders in the Foyada Mamaea."

Imsin's eyes widened, and she glanced over Velanya's shoulder. The Dunmer turned to see a guest she had not noticed sitting on a bench beside the door. An Imperial man in his mid to late fifties - his hair salt-and-pepper grey - watched her intensely with his blue-grey eyes. He wore simple leather armor, but a magnificent Akaviri katana hung from his hip.

"Did these Ashlanders bear any identification?" Imsin asked, regaining her attention.

"Nothing at all but a strange tooth amulet with odd runes," Velanya replied.

Imsin raised her eyebrows and glanced once more at the man, then inquired, "I assume the bodies are being taken care of?"

The Dark Elf nodded, "Pullia dispatched some men last night."

"Very well," Imsin said, gesturing to the Imperial, "This man is here to see you. He comes by order of the Emperor."

Imsin brushed past Velanya and headed for the door. On the way out, she nodded to the man, "She's all yours."

Lecuaro Sulnair Marczon - Fort Floodgate, Southern Gate

Lecuaro watched as Captain Danius escorted the Khajiit into the fort. They disappeared from view into the courtyard and the Breton inspected the observation area of the watch tower while he was waiting for the pair to arrive. Before long, he saw the Captain and his feline companion come through the doorway.

"Sir Marczon, this Khajiit said that he wishes to help us in the fight against the Ashlanders." Danius said.

Lecuaro was taken aback by this. He glanced at the Khajiit, whose olive-green eyes were studying him intently. He'd never had someone appear out of the blue and offer help here before. He knew that Danius wasn't one for jokes, but it was still weird.

"That will be all, Danius." Lecuaro replied. "Khajiit, if you will please follow me to my office..." He said as he headed out of the tower and motioned for the Khajiit to follow.

Dar'krinji. Fort Floodgate

As Lecuaro turned and motioned for Dar to follow him to his office, he followed him, looking around at all the fort had to offer. When they had reached his office, the Breton gave him a look that Dar, not being human, thought as possibly a sign of aggression. Maybe he wanted him to fight or, maybe all humans looked that way. He came to the conclusion that he needed to show this man his quick skill, so he pulled a small steel knife from his pocket, and threw it between the eyes of a portrait on Lecuaro's wall. Proud of himself, Dar smiled wide and stared at the Breton, waiting for his response.

Edward Wildeve, Indarys Manor, Bal Isra

Edward awoke surprisingly quickly, he rubbed his eyes as he sat on his bed. He lent down and fished out his medical bag from under his bed, opening it, he rummaged around until he found himself a razor. He shaved there on his bed and once he was satisfied he put the razor back, got up and stretched; cracking his back and arms.

He picked up his sword and walked down the hallway and outside. He stared out into the Ashlands, he felt cooped up and restrained... he was not used to this life, one of inaction and boredom and wished for the old days. Edward wondered where Adrynn went, and whether he would need his services anytime soon.

Lecuaro Sulnair Marczon - Fort Floodgate, Lecuaro's Office

Lecuaro eyed the grinning Khajiit for a moment, and then walked over to the now-lobotomized portrait. He pulled the knife from it, held it in his fingers for a bit, and then flicked it at the small pouch on the Khajiit's belt. The knife sailed through the air and right past the pouch, slicing through the strap that held it shut and popping the lid up. Then the sharpened projectile embedded itself in the leg of a wooden chair against the wall.

Lecuaro then walked back to his desk, sat down in his chair, and stared at the Khajiit with an expression that told him, "You just walked into school, cat."

"Now then, what might your name be?" He asked.

Velanya Therys, Fort Buckmoth Interior

Imsin closed the door behind her. When no sound of footsteps followed, Velanya deduced that the Commander was guarding the chamber. She turned her attention to the Imperial stranger, offering her hand, "Knight Errant Velanya Therys, at your service, sir."

He shook her hand firmly, meeting her eyes with a wry smile on his lips, "Spymaster Caius Cosades of the Blades."

Her jaw dropped with her hand, "The Blades?"

"Aye," Caius replied, "the Emperor's been tracking you for a while, now. He seems to think you've more than proven your loyalty to the Empire over the years. His Majesty sent me to induct you as a Novice Bladeswoman."

Velanya's mind whirled. Any other time she would have jumped at the chance to become a Blade. Now, though, it worried her. Why her? Why now? And how long had she been watched? And moreover, who was watching her?

"What if I refuse?" she asked, lifting her chin.

Caius settled his hand on the hilt of his katana, "Well, Miss Therys, let's just say you already know too much."

Dar'krinji. Fort Floodgate, Lecuaro's Office

Dar looked down at his pouch, now with no lid strap, and threw it away. He then turned to this Breton, knowing just what he meant... business.

"I am Dar'krinji, traveller of many places. So... who are you? And, what is it I can do for you business-man?"
