Velanya Therys, Fort Floodgate

"Indeed, sir. I'm off to the courtyard," the legionnaire answered. She then wordlessly left the office without closing the door, trying to rein in her fury at those foolish and bigoted soldiers' behavior. Faeryn followed close behind, practically stepping on her heels as she worked her way almost blindly through the corridors. She felt him place his hands on her shoulders, close to her neck because of her pauldrons. Velanya unthinkingly whirled around to face him, her expression hard as a stone.

"Whoa, easy!" Faeryn exclaimed, throwing his hands up in the air. He had replaced both his helm and his gauntlets, and she had to peer to see his scarlet eyes behind the glass inserts of his mask. Despite this, it was obvious that the Ordinator was shocked at her behavior.

Velanya closed her eyes, "Sorry. Things have been...rough, lately. It's a little more than a body can handle."

He placed his hand gently on top of her head, "I believe it. But come on. Let's get out to those Ashlanders and make sure they're alright. Then, you can tell me all about it."

They had made it to the foyer when the sound of yelling reached their ears. Velanya drew her sword without hesitation, storming through the front doors with a godlike fury to see the Urshilaku plastered against the inner walls, huddled close together, their hands over their heads. The portcullis was slowly grinding down, the soldiers scurrying across the battlements and shouting orders over a blood-chilling roar.

"What in Oblivion is going on?!" she yelled at the nearest guard, scrambling up the wall stairs.

"It's another attack!" the man answered, fear evident on his face.

She launched herself at the crenelations in disbelief, hoping against hope it wasn't true...

...but his words were confirmed. The roar was a battlecry of hundreds of steel-clad warriors, charging towards the fort from the northeast. They would hit the walls in minutes.

Faeryn, who had drawn his scimitar, called up to Velanya from the courtyard, "What is it?"

She turned back, her face grim, "Get the Urshilau inside the fort! We are under attack! You there," she pointed to a sentry who was rushing past, "fetch Nenalaamo, now!"

Faeryn began herding the Ashlanders into the foyer as the guardsmen were mustered together by word of mouth. To these men, Velanya gave her orders.

"Man the battlements! Grab every single arrow you can get your hands on! If we have boiling pitch, then get it ready! Set every arrow alight and don't you dare miss your targets!"

They couldn't afford to miss.

Nenalaamo - Fort Floodgate, Nenalaamo's Office

Nenalaamo had scarcely closed his office door and returned to his ledger when once again, a troop of soldiers burst in without warning. Nenalaamo snapped up and saw a young, wiry boy at the head of a quintet of men. His face was ashen and drawn.

"Nenalaamo, sir, they're attacking the fort again! Hundreds of them!" The boy screamed.

A second later, Nenalaamo found himself trailing the men back through the fort. All the while, he saw soldiers scurrying to fetch extra weapons and even saw the new Urshilaku tenants huddled together in a small storeroom. In no time, the sextet was in the courtyard, where the battle cries of the assailants reached the Altmer's ears.

He quickly levitated up to the top of the battlements and looked around for Velanya, Faeryn, and Serra.

"Velanya! Faeryn! Serra!" He yelled.

Velanya Therys, Fort Floodgate

Velanya heard Nenalaamo's call and spun to face him, "Sir! They're headed right for the weak wall! They'll flood the courtyard if we can't stop - "

A high-pitched whistling pierced the air, and she instinctively grabbed the tall Altmer by the arms, pulling him behind the crenelations as steel and silver arrows rained upon the fort. A few of the leather clad men cried out as they were slain by the hail of glimmering projectiles.

Faeryn had just pushed the last Ashlander inside the foyer when the sound reached his ears. He quickly grabbed the large oak doors and grunted as he pulled them shut. A series of thuds came from the other side as the arrows lodged themselves into the wood.

The two guardsmen beside him were wide-eyed in fear. Faeryn glanced over his shoulder and caught the gaze of Nibani Maesa, whose face was grim. After a moment of silence, Faeryn opened the doors and slipped out into the courtyard. Velanya and Nenalaamo were huddled on the walls, just beside a watchtower, but....

...someone was missing. Where was Serrabinashiah?

OOT>Sorry for the delay. My tangent of the RP hasn't moved in so long that I've been checking this far less frequently.

Kriak-To Kogoruhn

Kriak stared intently at the squirming ashlander, he honestly hadn't payed much heed to him or anything else since he struck his pose. He had been pondering the earlier occurrences, he was worried about his "interruptions." They had been highly unnerving to him. What he had once thought safe was no longer the private sanctuary he had once thought. He had been lost in his thoughts, he had figured that Adrynn's interrogation would be sufficient and that he wouldn't have to do much other than stare at the hapless captive. Lecuaro's statement brought Kriak's mind back to his body. He managed to maintain his composure and not betray the fact that he hadn't been paying attention. He shifted his gaze slowly to the soldier at his feet.

A slight scraping sound echoed through the silent hills as Kriak deliberately drew his dagger as conspicuously as possible and played with it in the light in front of the ashlander's face, watching the little sunbeams dance on the captive's face. Kriak didn't speak for a long time but locked eyes with the captive. Suddenly the prisoner's eyes widened immensely as he found Kriak's blade pressing into the stubble under his chin. Kriak did this to provide as much contrast as possible between the knife's drawing and his movements. Then Kriak began in earnest.

Kriak slowly and silently invaded the captive's mind. When Kriak at last had tendrils in every aspect of the ashlander's mind he unleashed hell. A booming voice that echoed like lightning among mountain crags thundered in the ashlander's conscience Speak or know true fear, look into my eyes and gaze into the depths of hell." Kriak's conscience overwhelmed the ashlander, Kriak wanted him to speak of his own accord rather than just steal his secrets. Upon utilizing this last technique the captive squeeled like a stuck pig and started babbling out all of his secrets. Kriak's companions heard none of his mental conversation with the prisoner to them it looked like Kriak's gaze alone influenced the captive.

Serrabinashiah Masseribalit - Fort Floodgate Battlements

Serra looked on with disbelief at the wave of steel she saw before her. She had planned to just be in the watchtower for a few moments to get a grip on herself before returning to help look after the Urshilaku. Now, she found herself scurrying down the tower's staircases out onto the main wall. Amidst the throng of archers, she spotted Velanya and Nenalaamo huddled down behind some crenelations. She charged forward to meet them.

Nenalaamo - Fort Floodgate Battlements

The next few moments were a blur. One second, Velanya was telling him how the attackers would breach the weak wall and storm in and the next, he found himself crouching with her in a protective nook. An instant later, he heard the final drones of whistling arrows as they topped the wall and cut down a handful of Legion archers.

Before he could speak, Nenalaamo noticed Serra rushing toward him and Velanya. "Hey, there's Serra!" He said.

Lecuaro Sulnair Marcxon - To Kogoruhn

Lecuaro watched with the others as Kriak hypnotized the Ahemmusa captive and began digging through his mind. For a couple of minutes, all was silent, although the expressions on the Ashlander's face let on that he appeared to be hysterically trying to say something.

Suddenly, however, a sharp, piercing crack sounded that made Lecuaro clasp his hands around his ears. Then, he saw Kriak stagger backwards in a daze. The hunter almost fell back into the sand, but managed to catch himself and stay crouched. Lecuaro ran up to him.

"Kriak! Kriak, are you alright?" Lecuaro asked as he shook Kriak lightly.

Velanya Therys, Fort Floodgate Battlements

Velanya watched as Serra scurried towards them. When the scout reached them, she continued what she had begun to say right before the volley of arrows had come, "They're headed straight for the weak wall, sir. We've got to keep them from breaching it. Do we have pitch we can burn?"

Faeryn Sethandas, Fort Floodgate Battlements

The Ordinator had managed to slip up to the threesome, arrows screaming overhead. He crouched close to Velanya and peeked over the wall to see an ocean of glimmering mercenaries charging towards the fortress.

He gripped his scimitar tightly, "We're going to need more than flaming arrows. The only thing that will take them down for sure is steel bolts. Or ballistae."

Caius Cosades, To Kogoruhn

The Spymaster's brow knitted as he watched Kriak work - reading the Ashlander's mind, no doubt. Similar interrogation methods had been used during and shortly after Jagar Tharn's reign. He had to admit, the woodsman ways were effective. But they also made his stomach turn.

"Well, what does he know?" Caius inquired when Kriak's face seemed to register a revelation.

Nenalaamo - Fort Floodgate Battlements

Nenalaamo looked out over the steel sea almost in disbelief. "There's plenty of pitch to burn, and we've got a generous helping of crossbowpeople up here."

He then turned to Faeryn. "Serra, take Faeryn down to see Circon the engineer and ask him if he's finished that ballista he's been working on. If he has, get it up here STAT."

Faeryn Sethandas, Fort Floodgate Battlements

The Ordinator moved close to the scout, placing himself between her and the outside edge of the walls.

"After you, sera."

Velanya Therys, Fort Floodgate Battlements

She could feel her anger rising again, and she clutched the hilt of her sword tightly in an attempt to control the increasing fury. The brand in her palm stung again, and she bit her lip in pain.

"Commander," Velanya finally looked at the Altmer, "your orders?"

Serrabinashiah Masseribalit - Fort Floodgate Battlements

Nenalaamo quickly cast a slowfall spell on Serra and Faeryn. "Jump down!" He said, motioning to the courtyard below.

Serra quickly leapt from the wall and glided onto the ground with Faeryn in tow. Once on solid earth, Serra led the Ordinator back into the fort, nimbly dodging the scurrying staff along the way. In time the pair reached Circon's chamber.

Serra burst in, startling the engineer, who was fine-tuning the ballista's drawstring.

"Whoa, what...who are you two?" Circon asked as he jumped back from the ballista.

Nenalaamo - Fort Floodgate Battlements

After charming Serra and Faeryn, Nenalaamo turned back to Velanya. "Velanya, I want you to stay here and help coordinate these archers and crossbowmen. As for myself, you'll have to do without me for a bit. The local sergeants and captains should do well enough while I go fetch Faeryn's friends from Maar Gan. Now go!"

With that, Nenalaamo cast Almsivi Intervention, and disappeared in a flash of mystic light.
