Bashed or Merged Patch? Please help!

Hi all,

Been trying to mod Fallout 3 for the last few days but still having problems... Usually when I play Bethesda games, I prefer using a bashed patch and have little to no problems at all. However when I bash my load order for FO3 and try escaping from the vault at the start of the game, a few of the security guards have Pipboy gloves in their inventory. I can grab these from their bodies but they are missing icons (PipOS error 26) and simply disappear when I drop them to the ground. I know this shouldn't happen and it's a small error but I'm worried about playing any further and there be more items like this.

When I use a merged patch, I do not have this problem but certain mods are missing from the merged patch which were included in the bashed patch. I've read that bashed patches are more in-depth and fix more issues.

Based on my load order, I'm wondering if a merged patch will be enough to play the game without any problems OR do I need the bashed patch instead? If I do need the bashed patch, how do I fix the Pipboy glove problem and how will I know this won't happen again with another item/weapon/armor/etc?

Please let me know. Thank you!

Bashed patches and merged files are entirely different animals, which is why some items are missing from your merged file that are included in your Bashed patch. There's no reason to not have both.

Hi again... So I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how to determine what is causing my FO3 to CTD? Is it my Merged/Bashed patch? Is there a crash log maybe?

- I'm using latest ENB + Midhrastic 2.0 + FOSE loader + Fallout Stutter Remover + Merged patch (with no leveled lists) + Bashed Patch + MasterUpdate...

- Only using 53 mods which I've sorted using BOSS...

- I've made the .ini edits like bUseThreadedAI=1 + iNumHWThreads=1...

- I've done pretty much everything I can find on Google and my computer should be more than capable of handling FO3...

But the game keeps crashing randomly whether it be exterior or interior within an hour of playtime or less, so I'm having to use CASM to save every 3 minutes of the game...

It's getting very frustrating... Can anyone help?

+ My Merged Patch config (when opened with FO3Edit): http://pastebin.com/cyPuKYyD

+ My Bashed Patch config: http://pastebin.com/fWvRbfzH

I've read multiple places, as well as seen mention in a few videos, that using both a merged patch AND a bashed patch can cause issues. Edited by acelogan

My first thought is it's Blackened; make sure that Blackened is not included in the Merged patch, and then to place Blackened AFTER the merged patch in the load order.
