Geistertanz
Hello everyone! I started a Virtual Reality mod today and after finally getting the hang of worldspaces, texturing and climate variables... who put lighting fx in the weather panel???... I have managed to produce a stable beta. Now... I have a terminal that sends you into a virtual reality. I have a scipt that gives you a simulated wepaon. I have a neat special effect that is doing the entire vr thingy without much trouble... but now I do not know where to go with the idea. Maybe enable the player to reactivate terminals on lockout with a vr-fight? Make the virus hunt in the Brotherhood bunker more interesting? Something Shadowrunny? I am stuck. So... please post away... I have attached a few screenshots and the beta. Load the mod, type "Player.CoC VirtualWorldOrigin" and take a look. Not much there yet. But you get the picture. The terminals in Victor's Shack and the VR diner are just placeholders I use while playtesting. DO NOT SAVE,. as you will be stuck in the vr world. -Ghostdancer Edited March 20, 2011 by Geistertanz
simplywayne90
Hey Ghost, Hmm I actually haven't played any VR mods in New Vegas yet, However I felt the VR in the basement of the Underground Hideout V3 was pretty well integrated and made. Pelvic
I was thinking of doing a VR related mod but don't have the time for it, so ill post what i was sort of thinking here. Stage 1: the player hears of a story from an npc about the body of a chinese recon solider that's out near a landmark the player then heads to the area the body is roumered to be and conducts a search of the loctaion to find the dead body. On finding the body the player loots and obtians a holo note that gives the player a cryptic message that will lead the player to a hiddin bunker that the chinese have built before the war and have been useing since. Stage 2: The player then has to find the bunkers location in the desert while searching the player is being randoly attacked by legion/NCR/BoS depending on the players aligiance as they want whats in the bunker as it could be filled with Old world technolgy. Stage 3: the player is then tasked with the job of clearing the bunker and to see what the chinese have been up-to for all these years the player enters the bunker and kills the occupents as the player exploers the bunker he comes across a room that has VR pods and a number of terminals that explain what the chinese have been doing since the bombs fell. Stage 4: with the information from the bunker the player then hands it over to the faction of his choice, with the information gained from the player the chosen faction moves into the bunker to unlock its secrets. With the unlocking of the secrets of the bunker the players chosen faction wants to use the VR pods to train troops Stage 5: with the players chosen faction now in control of the bunker and the VR pods up and runing the player can now engage in VR trianing sceniros. Sceniros : Sceniros can pretty much be anything that can be dreamed up but heres a few examples Trianing : Basic TrainingAdvanced Training Combat : Assault the Hover DamAssault the Strip Battlefield Front LinesTrench Warfare Espionage : Infultriate Bases/VaultsRecon enemy postionsGurellia WarfareReconisence if implmented right you could have it set up so that new sceniros could be added very easy and by other modders
simplywayne90
If you wanted to really work on it, you could make the VR as a way to relive stories from the lore or events that you know about but never see. Like perhaps the VR is somehow related to Vault-Tec, and you can watch or interact with the various destroyed Vaults as they slowly ruin themselves. Heres that basic idea: Spoilers used to save space of course. -----------------------------Effect The History Of The Vaults----------------------------- I came up with this idea a while back, now the basic idea is that somehow the player is able to either go back in time and accidentally (or purposely) cause the various disasters in the vaults... This idea was visited by the Fallout creators back in Fallout 2 where the player causes the events leading to the start of Fallout 1 as a joke. See Guardian Of Forever. -----------------------------The Basic Design Idea----------------------------- So the idea is that somehow, You get to see the different vaults from the games, as they were being destroyed or significant events or you can even cause them and become the reason for their ruin. Ways that we could introduce this could be... - Since each vault that failed was a social experiment, we can assume that they may have been monitored by a central Vault-Tec system. Therefore the player can simply be in a VR or similar enviroment, and simply view the events, or could take the role of an important dweller of the vault. - Player stumbles onto a secret and abandoned Vault-Tec hub of technology, one that is devoted to "Semi-peremenant bridges of time." Where you can only go back to the vaults. Which is actually a stable of real life time travel. As in you can only go back to a time where there is a time travel compatible "door" or device to accept you. This method would make it where the player can effect the vault and bring upon its ruin. Suddenly there could be a lot of possibilites for interesting mods, people could make muliple endings, new areas, factions, etc if the vault survives because of you. Explore the various vaults as an observer, where the npcs cannot see you or interact with you, and watch the dwellers as they doom themselves.Explore the empty vaults and cause the downfall.Possibly if modders want, you could have it where you can save some dwellers from the vaults fate, or damn them anew. Vault 11 perhaps? - Perhaps explore and be a witness to the work in Vault 22, until you accidentally bump a strange breaker onto a normal spore plant.- View the politics and stories of Vault 11.- Travel through Vault 87 before most of the FEV, perhaps you can find Fawkes and be the reason he keeps his sanity after mutating- Be the villian in Vault 77 and kill the puppet, Sending the single dweller futher into violent madness, - Watch James' first arrival and admission into Vault 101,- Watch in horror as the Fiends first claim Vault 3. I've set up this idea in a way where there are so many ways people could expand on it. http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/8917/vaulttecquickmake.png And then there are other historical events like the invasion of the Enclave base of Navarro in California, by the NCR. --------------------The Guns of Navarro By TheFireWarriors-------------------- I'd like a military themed quest, similar to Fallout 3's Operation Anchorage. It should either be a simulation, like OA, or maybe even a flashback gleaned from talking to an Old Veteran who fought in some nasty wars. In short, it is to "teleport" the courier into the shoes of either a grunt or a specwar operator for the NCR and showcase some incredible firefights and scripting and such. There were many stories of NCR military campaigns throughout the game, the First Battle for Hoover Dam for example, Or even the conquest of Navarro. The Guns of Navarro Player finds an old shack hidden behind a mountain. Upon stepping in, a hidden (scripted) frag mine (plot device) detonates, knocking the courier out. Before he passes out, he sees an old man emerging from the hut. (Like The Enclave in Vault 87 From Fallout 3) [Fade to black.] When he comes to, he is greeted by the old man. The man appears to have patched him up as best he could, explaining that the mines were for critters. (Like The Fallout NV Beginning) The player asks (to the effect) why the old man lives way out here surrounded by a mine field. The man then explains he used to be a soldier for the NCR and he is now retired. Sooner or later, he will mention that it might be too dangerous for the Courier to head out immediately, and invites him to hear some stories about his time in the service. The player may refuse and and head on out, but the old man can still be talked to in order to activate the quest. As he accepts, the man then says a little background about Navarro and why the NCR moved in. [Cue in "teleport/flashback"] The first objective would probably be to infilitrate Navarro's first line of defense and disable the howitzers (similar to the one's at Nellis) along with an elite Ranger squad. This takes place as the NCR is mounting their massive assault, so the howitzers would be constantly firing shells off map. After that's taken care of, the NCR will then arrive at the compound and a massive firefight between them and the Enclave ensues. Anyway, the rest of the quest will involve taking the base while fighting against an army of Enclave soldiers in Enclave Combat Armor and Remnant Power Armor. House-to-house fighting will above ground, and then storming the underground complex. Friends will die, Buildings assplode, but in the end, the NCR will have the day! [End of flashback] The Courier recovers, thanks (or doesn't thank) the old man, and sets off once more into the sunset. Also, there could be some easter eggs regarding Arcade Gannon and the Remnants escaping; maybe scattered notes from several characters or even possibly a scene showing hundreds of Vertibirds escaping into the air as the NCR plant their flag on the rubble of Navarro. (like The holotapes in OA) Just something I cooked up. xD --------------------Reply To Guns Of Navarro Idea-------------------- Thats well thought out, In a thread a long time ago me and some others were discussing how mods could do flashbacks like that. Possible Method -- By picking up items that were activators with scripts to force the player to wear face covering armor and helmets (so you can say its someone else) -- Force their inventory to match the flashback character.-- A Script to identify the Players gender and switch it (if needed) to the character having the flashback and one at the end to switch them back. We were discussing ODST, (Where you find certain objects and are flashbacked, and then play through events that lead to the object being there.) And thats how similar ideas to yours popped up. Great quest mod idea. I really hope yours gets made.
simplywayne90
Hey again ghost, i just updated my modders resource thread with stuff that we can legally use from Oblivion, if you wanted to do something like Assassins Creed. Also if you wanted to make it like Tron, I'd suggest incorporating the ghost armor and cyberdogs and things like that. I'll add more to this post in a bit, I've got about 4 messages to answer about some ongoing mods i'm consulting at the moment.
xTrogdorx
You could always make the Boomers flight simulator. See if you can get fighter planes and bombing runs and stuff to work. Drop mini-nukes out the side of an airplane? lol Otherwise, make a sandboxy sort of Tranquility Lane thing with no karma penalties. That'd be fun. devilpengui
You know, the virus hunt thing seems like a great idea.
simplywayne90
Hmm... I'm seeing a lot of directions this could be taken, perhaps you should set some guidelines on what your looking for Ghost, otherwise people won't really know how to respond, or you'll just start getting requests for random things. Something like "I'm making a VR mod about [blah] and I'd like to hear how I can build on that idea" would be enough to narrow suggestions so that people are just randomly guessing what your working on. Hope things are going well though

Hope things are going well though Thanks, I realize my first post was a little vague. As was the mod idea back then. Just uploaded a version with the first NPC (an A.I.) implemented. I am thinking about adding a quest to help the a.i. root out (no pun intended) some viruses from the virtual world. The reward will be boomer reputation (as it is located at Nellis) and some kind of item. Or a key to the boomer armory that the A.I. will be handing you under the hand. I am going to include some of the following gameplay elements into the virtual world: Sneaking past a series of turrets in order to retrieve a data disk/file package. Defeat a Grid Guardian (a BoS-like defense program.) Either through battle or by solving a mathematical puzzle... oh the scripting...argh... and finally a virus fight (straight forward, maybe with some cheating by summoning a defense bot called "Vault.Wiki"). Basically nothing that actually simulates a real world but using the existing game assets to create the in-the-computer feeling that came with the Tron movies. Any further ideas what to include? I am thinking of something like a "stealth boy masking utility"?
