Lolcheese
I have this strange problem that also happens with Fallout 3. I'm running Windows 7 Home edition with a Radeon 5770. See, after I turn off/on/restart my computer, I always have to go through the steam AMD driver update section and update to the same drivers over and over again. I already have the newest drivers so I'm basically re-installing the same ones. If I don't go through the driver process, the game will crash near the end of loading my save. I have the newest version of New Vegas, I have reinstalled many times before and such. It really gets annoying that I just can't start up the game and play right away and that I have to waste time updating my drivers... Anyone know what can I do? GrindedStone
You know it could be that you don't give the computer enough time to boot up. Basicly when you are passing time in your update updated driver psychosis, enough time has passed to allow the pink bunny rabit to boot up. Oh noe your psychosis is contagious an has spread to meh!!!!!! Now I see pink bunny rabits AND THEY'RE DRINKING ALL MEH NUKA COLA! Bad bunny... :( NO CARROT FOR JOU! ha ha ha Though, FNV or FO3 is only 200-400 Mb of Process in RAM when it first starts up, you have to remember that Windows XP is about the same size in RAM.Vista or Win7 are 2-4 times larger (or more, shh don't tell anyone). All that put together is a massive amount of data for the computer to chug. CHUG! CHUG! CHUG! WOO HOO! Oh yeah the point, dude I totally forgoted. XP boots up in like 15-30 seconds or 30-60 in default form, though it may take longer than that depending on what's going on. For example I installed Norton 360 the other day on this rig, an now it seems to hang for another 30 seconds or so in limbo while it's booting up. Steam Launching at startup exacerbates the issue, but I could change that in Steam settings so Steam only starts up when I start the game. I haven't changed it because a certian amount of wait time upon start up of the computer an O/S is normal, so I sit there an wait a bit until it's stabilized. Further, I've long made it a habit to do nothing when launching FNV or FO3. I used to spam mouse clicks at the start so it would skip to the main menu. Now though I'll launch it an just wait until it displays the main menu on it's own. This takes another 30-60 seconds, which is kind of a pain. Then you know, or you now know, that the continue button (autosave, quicksave) were prone (or more prone) to coruption in the long and dark launch to 1.7 patch days of FO3. So after that awkward 30-60 second period of silence while FO3 or FNV is starting up an displaying credits an slides, the main menu pops up an I click LOAD then manually loading a save game. You could look into tweeking your O/S more toward what a gamer would want. Control panel/system will display some performance settings, for example giving priority to background services or programs. Though you would need to research what the gamer Win7 users are actually doing to bring out the performance.
